Part-Time Registered Migration Agent
About Thames Migration
Thames Migration is an established Australian migration practice providing professional immigration advice and assistance to individuals, families and businesses across Australia and internationally.
With operations in Australia and the United Kingdom, we advise across a wide range of Australian migration matters, including employer-sponsored visas, skilled migration, state and regional nomination, partner and family visas, DAMAs and Labour Agreements, citizenship and other complex migration matters.
Our practice has been built around two key principles: technical excellence and personal client service. We pride ourselves on providing considered, practical and commercially sensible migration advice while maintaining a highly personalised approach to every matter.
As our practice continues to grow, we are looking for an experienced Registered Migration Agent to join Thames Migration on a part-time basis.
About the Role
This is a varied role suited to an RMA with approximately 2–3 years' experience who enjoys working across different areas of Australian migration law rather than being confined to a single visa category.
Working closely with the Directors and broader team, you will have exposure to a diverse portfolio of individual and corporate clients and the opportunity to manage matters from initial assessment through to lodgement and decision.
Key responsibilities will include
- Managing a varied portfolio of migration matters across employer-sponsored, skilled, regional and family migration;
- Preparing and managing Subclass 482, 186 and 494 sponsorship, nomination and visa applications;
- Working on skilled migration matters, including Subclasses 189, 190 and 491;
- Assisting with DAMA and Labour Agreement matters where required;
- Conducting consultations and assessing clients' migration options;
- Advising employers regarding sponsorship, nomination and compliance requirements;
- Preparing clear, technically accurate submissions and supporting documentation;
- Liaising directly with employers, HR representatives and individual applicants;
- Identifying alternative or longer-term migration pathways for clients where appropriate; and
- Managing files, deadlines and client communications independently and professionally.
The role provides an opportunity to work across the full spectrum of migration matters handled by Thames Migration, while continuing to develop expertise in more technical and complex areas of migration practice.
Qualifications and Requirements The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Current registration as an Australian Registered Migration Agent, or relevant qualification as an Australian Immigration Lawyer;
- At least 2–3 years' post-registration experience;
- Sound experience in employer-sponsored migration, particularly Subclasses 482, 186 and/or 494;
- Working knowledge of General Skilled Migration and state/territory nomination pathways;
- Exposure to DAMAs and Labour Agreements would be advantageous, but is not essential;
- Strong written and oral communication skills;
- Confidence dealing directly with employers, professionals, families and individual migrants from a wide variety of backgrounds;
- Excellent case-management and organisational skills;
- Robust attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines;
- A professional, conscientious and client-focused approach; and
- The ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the wider Thames Migration team.
Experience with Migration Manager or similar migration case-management software would be advantageous.
What We Offer The successful candidate will be offered:
- A flexible part-time position with remote working arrangements;
- Exposure to a genuinely broad range of Australian migration work rather than being limited to one visa stream;
- A diverse portfolio of individual, family and corporate clients;
- Opportunities to work on both straightforward and technically complex migration matters;
- Direct access to and collaboration with experienced migration professionals;
- Ongoing professional development and exposure to emerging areas of migration practice;
- Flexibility and autonomy within an established international migration practice; and
- The opportunity for the position to develop as Thames Migration continues to grow.
We are looking for someone who enjoys migration practice, takes pride in the quality of their work and wants a role that provides variety, professional development and exposure to different areas of Australian migration law.
Applications
Please provide your CV together with a brief introduction outlining your migration experience, the areas of migration law you currently work across and your preferred part-time working arrangements.
