About GSES
Established in 1998, GSES has more than 25 years of experience in the renewable energy industry, delivering projects throughout Australia and internationally. Our work spans Solar PV, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), EV charging infrastructure and energy efficiency, including feasibility and techno-economic analysis, procurement and tender support, engineering reviews, quality assurance and inspections, compliance, asset management and operational optimisation.
We are growing our consulting team and are looking for an engineer who combines strong technical capability with the communication, commercial judgement and organisational skills required to successfully deliver projects and work directly with clients.
About the Role
You will work across multiple renewable energy and energy efficiency projects, taking responsibility for technical analysis, project delivery, client communication and coordination of subcontractors and other project stakeholders.
We are looking for someone who can understand the engineering but also understands that successful consulting requires much more than producing a technically correct report. You will need to understand what the client is trying to achieve, communicate complex issues clearly, manage budgets and deadlines, coordinate people in the field and identify practical solutions when projects do not go exactly to plan.
The role will suit someone who enjoys variety and wants exposure to the technical, commercial and operational sides of the renewable energy industry..
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver renewable energy and energy efficiency consulting projects from initial client engagement through to completion.
- Undertake technical and commercial analysis of Solar PV, BESS, EV charging and energy efficiency projects.
- Prepare feasibility studies, techno-economic assessments, technical reports, specifications, scopes of work and procurement documentation.
- Review system designs, equipment selections, technical documentation and project proposals.
- Undertake or coordinate site inspections, technical audits, commissioning activities and quality assurance programs.
- Develop a strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, economics, industry participants, regulations and relevant Australian Standards.
- Build solid relationships with clients and act as a trusted technical point of contact throughout project delivery.
- Understand client objectives and translate them into practical technical scopes and deliverables.
- Coordinate subcontractors, inspectors, installers and other technical service providers, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required standard.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, deliverables and commercial outcomes.
- Identify project risks early and proactively work with clients,
subcontractors and the internal team to resolve them.
- Support proposals, tenders and business development activities, including identifying opportunities to provide additional value to existing clients.
Skills and Experience
- A relevant engineering degree or equivalent technical qualification.
- Experience in renewable energy, energy efficiency, electrical engineering or a closely related industry.
- Practical knowledge of one or more of Solar PV, BESS, EV charging infrastructure or energy efficiency technologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to assess technical and commercial information and make practical recommendations.
- Experience delivering projects and managing competing priorities, deadlines and budgets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence communicating directly with clients, contractors and senior stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build long-term professional relationships.
- A commercially minded approach and an understanding that successful consulting requires balancing technical quality, client expectations, time and cost.
- The confidence to manage subcontractors and external service providers and hold them accountable for agreed outcomes.
