Racing NSW is the statutory body for thoroughbred horse racing in NSW and owns a number of properties across the state as part of its Equine Welfare Program.

Bart's Farm, located at Castlereagh in North-Western Sydney, is a key property within the Equine Welfare Program and supports the retraining, spelling and rehoming of Thoroughbred horses following their racing careers.

We are seeking a capable Farmhand to join the team at Bart's Farm. Reporting directly to the Property Manager, this hands-on role focuses on general farm maintenance and property upkeep, alongside daily horse care. Horse experience and riding ability are strongly preferred, with the chance to assist with riding and retraining Thoroughbreds for candidates with the right skills.

Key Responsibilities The Rider / Farmhand role is responsible for:

- General farm maintenance and property upkeep, including fencing, machinery and infrastructure repairs
- Providing daily feeding, grooming and general care
- Safe handling of horses including catching, leading, rugging and turnout




- Monitoring horse health and reporting concerns promptly
- Assisting with farrier and veterinary visits
- Cleaning and maintenance of stables, yards and work areas
- Maintaining tack and equipment in good condition
- Riding and assisting with the retraining of Thoroughbred horses, where skills and time permit
- Assessing horse behaviour and temperament during handling and riding
- Upholding best practice equine welfare standards at all times
- Ensuring all activities are carried out in accordance with workplace health and safety requirements

Skills & Experience The successful applicant will demonstrate:

- Competence and confidence carrying out farm maintenance and property upkeep tasks
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Horse experience and riding ability strongly preferred
- Sound understanding of equine behaviour and welfare
- A proactive, "can do" attitude and willingness to work outdoors
- Good communication skills and attention to detail

Desirable Qualifications

- Experience operating farm machinery
- Equestrian or racing industry background
- Experience riding or retraining Thoroughbreds
