Build a technology sales career by doing the work that actually creates pipeline.

We’re recruiting a Sales Development Representative for a growing Australian B2B software business. This is one of two new go-to-market hires, alongside a Marketing Manager, and you’ll work closely with the Business Development Manager and CEO to build a more structured sales and marketing engine.

This is a hands-on role. You’ll research accounts, pick up the phone, start conversations, follow up campaigns, qualify opportunities and book meetings. You’ll also bring back what you’re hearing from the market so Sales, Marketing and Product can make better decisions.

They’re looking for someone extroverted, competitive and comfortable talking to people — someone who takes ownership, finds a way to yes and keeps moving when the first answer is no.

The Opportunity

Your job is to create qualified sales pipeline. You’ll combine targeted outbound prospecting with fast, disciplined follow-up of marketing activity and inbound interest. Quality matters more than activity for activity’s sake, but this is still a role for someone who enjoys being on the phone and is prepared to do the consistent work required to generate results.

You won’t be left to figure it out alone. You’ll have direct access to the CEO, BDM, Marketing Manager and wider business, with practical coaching and exposure to how a software company sells, markets and grows. For the right person, there is a explicit pathway toward a BDM or Account Executive role.

What You’ll Do

- Learn the product, customer problems, market positioning and target customer segments in depth.
- Build and work targeted account lists and prospecting cadences.
- Prospect by phone, email, LinkedIn and other approved channels — with the phone a core part of the role.
- Research prospects properly and create relevant, credible reasons to start a conversation.

- Qualify opportunities against agreed criteria and create sales-accepted pipeline.
- Follow up campaigns, inbound enquiries and intent signals quickly and consistently.
- Book quality discovery meetings and provide the BDM with clear context, needs and next steps.
- Keep Salesforce accurate and current so opportunities and follow-up do not fall through the cracks.
- Use AI, automation and sales engagement tools to improve research, personalisation, sequencing and reporting.
- Use data to understand what is working, adjust your approach and improve performance.
- Capture customer feedback, competitor intelligence and market insight and share it with Sales, Marketing and Product.
- Support broader commercial activity including campaigns, proposals and tenders when required.

What We’re Looking For This role is as much about attitude and aptitude as it is about your CV. They can teach the product and develop your sales skills; they need you to bring the energy, discipline and willingness to learn.

- Genuinely extroverted and comfortable starting conversations with people you do not know.
- Confident on the phone and able to communicate professionally with senior stakeholders.
- Resilient — rejection does not derail you; you reset and get back into the conversation.
- A self-starter with a find-a-way-to-yes mindset.
- Honest, accountable and dependable. You do what you say you will do.
- Coachable, curious and comfortable receiving direct feedback.
- Competitive and motivated by achievement, measurable goals and financial reward.
- Disciplined and systematic enough to prospect consistently,

not only when motivation is high.
- Commercially curious and interested in understanding customers, markets and why people buy.
- Comfortable using technology, automation and AI as part of how you work.

Experience & Background

- Around two years’ experience is ideal. Phone-based sales, business development or other genuinely customer-facing experience will be highly regarded.
- Experience working towards targets, goals or measurable outcomes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- SaaS, HR technology or enterprise software experience is useful but not essential.
- A degree is welcome but not required — aptitude, work ethic and communication ability matter more.
- Strong general business acumen and confidence using Microsoft 365.
- Salesforce experience is useful; willingness to learn CRM, sales automation, marketing platforms and AI-enabled tools is essential.

This is not a completely from-scratch training role unless you are exceptional. You do not need to arrive as a finished technology salesperson, but you do need evidence that you can communicate, perform against expectations and take responsibility for your own results. What’s On Offer

- A genuine opportunity to help build a go-to-market function rather than simply inherit someone else’s playbook.
- Direct access to the CEO and BDM, with practical, hands-on mentoring.
- A structured pathway toward a Junior BDM or Account Executive role for someone who demonstrates the capability.
- A proven product and established customer base, with new sales and marketing infrastructure being built around it.
- The opportunity to work closely with the new Marketing Manager and see how Sales and Marketing operate together.

- Real visibility across the business and the chance to contribute beyond a narrow SDR activity list.
- Benefits that go well beyond the norm!
