- Permanent 0.7 FTE (28 hours per week) Staff Specialist at The Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW)
- Permanent 0.4 FTE (16 hours per week) Staff Specialist at Sydney Children's Hospital, Randwick (SCH)
The successful applicants are required to have flexibility to cover CICADA Adolescent / Family Services at both SCH & CHW as needed. What You'll Be Doing The CICADA Drug and Alcohol Staff Specialist position within the SCHN Department of Adolescent Medicine is responsible for assessment and management of children and adolescents presenting and referred to the Sydney Children's Hospitals Network CICADA Adolescent or Family Services. The position will provide clinical leadership to the multidisciplinary teams in these clinical areas at SCHN Westmead and Randwick, contribute to strategic planning, service development, teaching and research addressing parental substance use and/or adolescent drug and alcohol use. The staff specialist will work within a multidisciplinary model of care acknowledging the complex range of paediatric and adolescent health concerns, chronic conditions and psychosocial issues faced by children and adolescents affected by alcohol or other substance use.
CICADA Adolescent and Family Drug and Alcohol Services The NSW CICADA Centre offers a lifespan approach to the Care and Intervention for Children and Adolescents affected by Drugs and Alcohol within the SCHN. The three clinical streams include; Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Service, Family Drug and Alcohol Service and Adolescent Drug and Alcohol Services.
The Centre provides a statewide service and is based within the Department of Adolescent Medicine at both the Children’s Hospital at Westmead and Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick.
The Staff
Specialist position provides specialist hospital drug and alcohol consult liaison, inpatient and outpatient assessment and treatment of children and adolescents.

Please note: To be eligible for permanent appointment to a position in NSW Health, you must have an Australian citizenship or permanent Australian residency.
- Eligible for registration as a medical practitioner in NSW
- Fellowship of the RACP or other Specialist recognition in Adolescent Young Adult Medicine (AYAM) and/or Addiction Medicine preferred but not essential
- Demonstrated clinical experience in the treatment of adolescents with substance use disorders, complex medical and psychosocial issues and competence addressing associated harms and co-morbidities
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing Adolescent Medicine's clinical, research and training agendas including a commitment to clinical practice improvement and quality improvement activities
- Demonstrated commitment to teaching and continuing education of colleagues, allied health staff, Junior Medical Officers (JMOs) and medical students
- Demonstrated capacity to provide effective role modelling and leadership for JMOs and adolescent and young adult medicine trainees
- Demonstrated capacity to provide effective leadership and work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
