About Matrix Education
Matrix Education is Australia's leading and fastest-growing tuition college for ambitious students from Year 3 to Year 12. For over 25 years, we've helped tens of thousands of students achieve their academic goals through remarkable teaching, fanatical customer support, and exceptional outcomes.
We're now in the middle of something exciting. Matrix is expanding nationally, growing our online platform Matrix+, and re-thinking what new techniques and technologies can unlock within our already world-class learning programs. The Academic team you will be joining is the heart and soul of Matrix. You will be in the engine room, delivering exceptional instruction at scale to some of Australia’s brightest and most ambitious students.
Position Overview
As Matrix continues to grow, we need faculty leaders who can grow with us, holding to the high standards of academic performance and rigour that is our trademark. The Science Faculty Lead owns the health, performance and reputation of Science at Matrix, and builds a team that can deliver that consistently at scale.
We're looking for a leader who builds capable people and sets a clear bar, rather than someone who tries to solve every problem themselves. Someone who earns credibility by teaching, observing, coaching and being visible on campus, not just managing from a distance.
You'll own course health, academic performance and deliver exceptional student outcomes for Science across all relevant Matrix campuses. You’ll achieve scale by working through Science Team Leads who will report to you as your faculty grows to need them. You'll set curriculum standards in partnership with our dedicated Curriculum Development team, own strategic academic direction, and represent the faculty to Marketing, Customer Experience and the Head of Academic.
You lead a full academic team from day one, made up of Team Leads (depending on size of faculty), Matrix class Teachers, and Senior Tutors. You'll keep teaching too, at least three hours a week, to stay connected to the classroom and credible with the people you're leading.
The roster includes some weekends, because that's when much of our teaching occurs. You will interact a lot with teachers,
students and occasionally parents for academic escalations.
You don't need to write curriculum yourself; our Curriculum Development team handles production. What you need is the academic authority to set direction, sign-off on what's produced, and know when something doesn’t meet the Matrix quality bar or fit the needs of our ambitious students.
Key responsibilities & outcomes
1. Teaching quality and team capability
- Set transparent pedagogical standards across all campuses for consistent, high-quality delivery
- Build a scalable coaching model that develops your senior teachers and Team Lead(s) and expands their leadership capacity
- Partner with People and Culture on talent acquisition and pipeline strategy for casual teachers and tutors and maintain strong alumni engagement
- Maintain a culture that keeps casual teacher performance, satisfaction and retention high
- Teach at least three hours a week to stay connected to the student experience
2. Student outcomes and experience
- Achieve strong learning gains and formal exam performance (HSC) across all campuses
- Monitor Course Health analytics to catch disengaged cohorts early and deploy support
- Analyse SEQ (Student Experience Questionnaire) trends and direct immediate coaching adjustments where needed
- Manage complex academic escalations in a way that keeps parents' trust and students engaged
3. Academic program quality
- Set the strategic vision for the subject, ensuring full alignment with NESA requirements
- Sign-off on major curriculum architecture, assessment models and exam materials
- Give Curriculum Development team clear, helpful feedback that improves publishing output

4. Faculty strategy and growth

- Demonstrated experience developing teams, ideally teams of educators, including handling tough performance conversations
- Comfortable interpreting student analytics, retention trends and SEQ data to make real decisions
Scalable leadership and academic authority This role only works if you can lead through others, not around them. We're looking for someone who sets a standard, stepping in when it genuinely matters.
- A track record of building capability in others rather than doing the work yourself
- Confidence handling difficult conversations, whether that's a struggling teacher or an anxious parent
- Comfort making final calls on curriculum and assessment without needing to write it yourself
- Genuine energy for coaching others
Skills and attributes
- Passion for education and the impact it has on young people

- High ownership and sound judgement under ambiguity
Success measures
- Sustained upward trend in faculty-wide SEQ, retention and NPS scores
- Measurable acceleration in coached teachers' performance and satisfaction
- On-time strategic sign-off on major curriculum rollouts with no alignment errors
