Salary Range: Base Salary LGO6 $102,640 per annum + super

Location: Townsville Application Close: 11:45pm, Wednesday 30 September 2026 Townsville City Council is seeking an experienced Senior Asset Inspector to help protect, maintain and improve the infrastructure that supports our growing city.

This is an chance to join the Construction Maintenance and Operations team and play a key role in inspecting Council assets, identifying hazards and defects, supporting maintenance planning, and providing technical advice that helps deliver safe, reliable and valued services for the Townsville community.

About The Role As Senior Asset Inspector, you will deliver high-quality programmed and reactive inspections across Council infrastructure under the stewardship of the Construction Maintenance and Operations section. You will identify hazards and defects, assess asset condition, provide practical recommendations, and help ensure works are prioritised in line with agreed standards, customer needs and community outcomes.

You will demonstrate strong safety leadership, personal accountability and customer focus, while supporting continuous improvement across inspection, testing, condition rating and reporting processes.

What You Will Do Key responsibilities include:

- Conduct hazard, defect and asset condition inspections across nominated Council infrastructure.
- Carry out programmed and reactive inspections and report on asset condition against agreed intervention levels.
- Identify, scope and justify appropriate treatments for renewal, scheduled maintenance and unscheduled maintenance.
- Provide clear reports, technical data and advice to support maintenance planning and decision-making.
- Make safe any hazards observed during inspections and comply with Council workplace health and safety requirements.
- Mentor and guide fellow Asset Inspectors and contribute to continuous improvement of inspection processes.

About You To be successful in this role,



you will bring practical asset inspection experience, strong technical judgement and a commitment to safe, customer-focused service delivery. You will be confident using technology in the field and able to communicate technical information clearly to support effective maintenance outcomes.

- Associate Degree or qualifications in Civil Engineering and/or at least five years’ experience inspecting assets.
- Current Queensland “C” class driver’s licence.
- Demonstrated knowledge of asset construction, repair, RMPC and maintenance practices, including the ability to read and interpret drawings and roadwork plans.
- Experience using Microsoft Office, GIS, business management systems, tablets, laptops and GPS data.
- Construction Industry General Induction Card.
- Traffic Management Implementation and MUTCD knowledge.
- Minimum Level 1 Bridge Inspector accreditation.
- Authorised Persons Card.
- A demonstrated commitment to positive safety behaviours, due diligence and compliance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
