Senior Communications and Marketing Specialist

Located in the heart of Melbourne’s legal precinct, the Victorian Bar is the professional association representing more than 2,270 barristers in Victoria. The Bar is a busy, thriving community comprising barristers, clerks and support staff.

The Victorian Bar has a proud tradition of providing strong and independent legal representation and advice without fear or favour to all in the community.

We are seeking a Senior Communications and Marketing Specialist to develop and deliver high-quality communications, marketing campaigns and engagement activities that support the Victorian Bar’s priorities, member services and public reputation.

Reporting to the Corporate Services Manager, and with direct access to the Executive Director and the President of the Bar, this opportunity will suit an experienced communications and marketing professional who combines excellent writing and editorial skills with sound judgement, practical marketing capability and confident stakeholder engagement.

This is a senior specialist role with responsibility for independently managing complex work from initial brief through to delivery and evaluation. The role provides professional advice and recommendations within its area of expertise but does not have direct reports.

1. Developing clear, accurate communications for members, staff and external audiences across digital, print and media channels.
2. Planning and delivering integrated marketing and awareness campaigns for Victorian Bar services, events and initiatives.
3. Translating complex legal, policy and operational information into accessible, audience-appropriate content.
4. Managing communications for major publications, including Bar News and the Victorian Bar Annual Report.
5. Supporting media relations,



reputation management and stakeholder engagement.
6. Using data, feedback and practical quality controls to improve campaign performance, content and communications processes.

Key selection criteria: To be considered for this role, you will have:

- Substantial experience in communications, marketing, public relations or a related discipline
- Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, including experience communicating complex or sensitive information
- Demonstrated success delivering integrated communications and marketing campaigns from brief through to evaluation
- Experience in media relations, digital communications, social media, email marketing, web publishing and performance reporting
- Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities, stakeholders and deadlines
- Sound judgement, discretion and the ability to identify and appropriately escalate communications and reputational risks
- A collaborative, accountable and service-oriented approach consistent with the Victorian Bar’s values.

Desirable experience

- Experience in a member association, legal environment or complex professional services organisation
- Experience delivering major publications, annual reports or multi-stakeholder campaigns
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent professional experience.

The ideal candidate will be a curious,



service-oriented communications skilled who understands audiences and is motivated to improve the usefulness, reach and effectiveness of organisational communications. You will bring excellent written and verbal communication skills, careful professional judgement and strong attention to detail. You will be comfortable managing sensitive or reputationally significant matters, working under pressure and coordinating complex activities involving multiple contributors and approval points.
