Senior Cloud Architect / Cloud Engineer
Rate Guide: $140–$160 per hour + GST
Babylon Data is seeking multiple experienced Senior Cloud Architects and Cloud Engineers to support the delivery of major cloud initiatives within a Commonwealth Government environment.
These positions combine enterprise cloud architecture, solution design and hands-on technical guidance across Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. Successful candidates will work with geographically dispersed multidisciplinary teams to deliver secure, reliable and user-focused cloud solutions.
Contract Details
- Initial contract: 12 months
- Extensions: Two further 12-month options
- Estimated commencement: 19 October 2026
- Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
- Location: Remote arrangements may be considered on a case-by-case basis
- Candidates outside Canberra must clearly state their proposed work location
- Security clearance: Must be able to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance
- Australian citizenship is required
Key Responsibilities
- Develop enterprise-level cloud platform architectures for Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
- Develop high-level solution architectures for cloud-based systems.
- Produce detailed architectural guidance for cloud engineering teams.
- Assess the technical impact of business and stakeholder requirements.
- Ensure solutions align with whole-of-government standards and enterprise architecture principles.
- Provide technical guidance throughout the design and delivery of cloud-based systems.
- Collaborate with business owners, Scrum Masters, business analysts, developers, architects, testers and user-experience specialists.
- Support platform automation, automated testing, Infrastructure as Code, continuous integration and continuous deployment.
- Promote reuse before build or purchase, configuration over customisation and open access to data over siloed functionality.
- Assist delivery teams to align solutions with the Digital Service Standard.
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring and strategic advice.
- Undertake other related duties as required.
Required Experience and Capabilities
- At least five years’ experience implementing, designing or managing enterprise cloud systems.
- Demonstrated experience with Azure App Services, Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, Azure SQL, Azure Service Bus and Azure API Management.
- Strong Azure DevOps experience covering code management, repositories, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD deployment.
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
- Experience integrating cloud systems with external platforms, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM.
- Solid knowledge of Azure networking, security and identity capabilities, including Virtual Networks, Private Endpoints and Role-Based Access Control.
- Experience developing and managing enterprise-level and application-level Azure architectures.
- Ability to provide impact analysis and technical guidance aligned with whole-of-government standards.
- Experience delivering secure, reliable and user-friendly solutions within Agile multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work effectively with geographically dispersed teams and technical and non-technical stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong collaboration, mentoring, leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to respond pragmatically when priorities, requirements or delivery conditions change.
Highly Desirable
- A demonstrated record of technical leadership across project delivery and operational environments.
- Strong understanding of cloud architecture principles and contemporary cloud technologies.
- Experience in application, integration or infrastructure platform architecture.
- At least three years’ experience designing and documenting architectures for large and complex enterprise systems.
- Experience with AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
- Relevant Microsoft Azure certifications.
