About the Role

This is an opportunity for an experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to take a visible role in our Canberra studio, shaping high-quality electrical design, leading project delivery and supporting the development of engineering talent in our Sydney studio.

Working with Associates, Associate Directors and Directors, you will support design teams, lead multidisciplinary projects and build capability through technical direction, collaborative leadership and mentoring staff in different studios. The role may include occasional travel to Sydney to support project delivery, team connection and mentoring activities.

You will work across the full project lifecycle, from concept and design documentation to coordination, site visits and commissioning support, with tailored learning and clear progression support. You will join a collaborative Canberra-based team, with close connection to our Sydney studio and broader team culture.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

- Lead the engineering design and delivery of projects from concept through to completion.
- Provide technical expertise, design review and quality assurance across project teams.
- Coordinate with architects, clients,



authorities, contractors and multidisciplinary consultants.
- Support innovation and the adoption of sustainable and productive engineering solutions.

Project Leadership

- Manage the delivery of projects to programme, budget and quality standards.
- Lead small to medium projects and act as discipline lead on larger projects.
- Monitor project performance, utilisation, fees and resource requirements.

Team Leadership, Mentoring and Development

- Mentor, coach and support graduate, project and developing engineers in the Sydney studio.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, technical direction and constructive feedback to team members.
- Coordinate with Canberra and Sydney engineering team members to support effective project delivery.
- Travel to Sydney as required to support mentoring, team collaboration and project delivery.
- Promote a culture of collaboration, accountability and continuous improvement.
- Act as a role model for Steensen Varming's values, culture and professional standards.

Business Development

- Build and maintain trusted relationships with clients and industry partners.
- Support the preparation of proposals, presentations and business development activities.
- Contribute to securing repeat work and identifying new opportunities.

About You We are looking for someone with:

- A relevant engineering degree, in electrical, building services or similar.
- Chartered, registered or working towards chartership.
- Registered as an ACT Engineer, Building practitioner or working towards obtaining.
- Strong building services consultancy experience.
- Experience with Revit, PowerCAD, LV high voltage
- Proven experience delivering multidisciplinary engineering projects.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and develop graduate and junior engineers, including remote or cross-studio support.
- Strong project management and organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- A collaborative approach and commitment to technical excellence.
