Role Description The Senior FX Artist is a full‑time hybrid role based in Sydney, NSW, with the flexibility to work from home for part of the week. In this role, the artist will design, create, and refine complex visual effects such as explosions, fluids, smoke, and destruction for high‑end commercial and long‑form projects.

Day‑to‑day responsibilities include building FX setups in HOUDINI, collaborating with lighting, compositing, and animation teams, and ensuring FX integrate smoothly into final shots. The Senior FX Artist will work closely with supervisors and producers to interpret creative briefs, troubleshoot technical challenges,



and deliver work that meets both artistic and production standards. The role also involves mentoring junior artists, sharing best practices, and contributing to pipeline improvements to maintain efficiency and quality.

Qualifications

- Robust proficiency in HOUDINI for FX creation, scene setup, and simulation workflows.
- Experience collaborating with Lighting and Compositing teams to integrate FX into production‑ready shots.
- Solid understanding of Animation principles and the ability to create FX that support character and environment motion.
- Background in real‑time FX pipelines is beneficial for cross‑platform and interactive projects.
- Demonstrated experience as an FX Artist in VFX or animation studios, with a portfolio or showreel showcasing high‑quality FX work.
- Knowledge of additional FX and rendering tools (e.g., Houdini, Nuke, Arnold, or similar) is an advantage.
- Ability to interpret creative direction, manage time effectively, and deliver consistently within production schedules.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with openness to feedback and iterative development.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in VFX, animation, digital media, or a closely related field, or equivalent professional experience.
