Primary objective The Senior Investigator has a pivotal role in progressing activities in the Investigation functions of the OIEC. The role is responsible for ensuring the timely, thorough and accurate investigation of the most complex and sensitive allegations of improper conduct in accordance with the statutory obligations of the unit.





Context statement The OIEC is an independent statutory body established under the Integrity and Ethics Commissioner Act 2025. The role of the OIEC is to prevent, detect, investigate and respond to improper conduct by public officers, bodies and those who receive government funds, while protecting people who assist in this role.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Undertake investigations of the most complex and sensitive allegations of improper conduct, as required by the Commissioner.
2. Exercise statutory powers given to the Senior Investigator (as an Authorised Officer) to advance investigations, including powers to

enter and search certain premises and require certain persons to answer questions.
- Analyse and synthesise information, utilising professional judgement to properly and fairly consider allegations of improper conduct.
- Prepare notices and written reports relevant to investigations, including plans, decision records, notices to require provision of evidence, statements and interviews.
- Ensure investigations are conducted fairly and in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
- Maintain effective collaborative relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Determine strategy to achieve maximum outcomes, in conjunction with the Director Operations.
- Utilise a wide range of investigative techniques whilst ensuring the effective use of OIEC resources and powers.
- Provide support,



guidance, mentoring and leadership to Investigators.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Demonstrated experience collecting and analysing large volumes of information, and making considered decisions and

recommendations.
- Significant experience in conducting investigations, audits, reviews or evaluations in a government setting, or for government.
- Demonstrated experience in preparing reports and correspondence that are clear, accurate and concise.
- Demonstrated experience in providing feedback to others in respect of the preparation of written documents.

3. Demonstrated experience maintaining strict confidentiality of information.
4. Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgement in decision making.
5. Demonstrated experience to effectively communicate with and conduct interviews with people from a range of diverse backgrounds.

Desirable

1. Qualification in accounting, law, investigations or a related discipline.
2. Demonstrated experience in planning, undertaking and managing criminal or administrative investigations.
