An exciting prospect for a Senior Legal Counsel to join one of Australia’s fastest-growing wealth technology and investment platforms. The business is rapidly expanding its Australian operations, with a number of new products expected to launch over the coming year.

The Role

This is a newly created growth role within the Sydney legal team, reporting to a Senior Legal Counsel with a dotted line into the General Counsel.

The team operates with a relatively flat structure, meaning you will have regular exposure to senior management and executives.

Essentially, this is a product lawyering role. You will be involved from the outset in understanding new products and propositions, identifying the regulatory considerations and helping the business find practical ways to bring them to market.

Responsibilities

- Provide strategic and commercially focused advice on Australian financial services regulation and regulatory obligations.
- Advise on the Corporations Act, AFSL requirements, ASIC guidance and other relevant financial services legislation.
- Support the development, structuring and launch of new products, features and customer propositions.
- Advise on regulatory change and its impact on the business.
- Work closely with Compliance and Risk on regulatory issues,



governance and legal risk.
- Advise on customer documentation, disclosures, product governance and financial promotions.
- Support engagement with regulators and external legal advisers.
- Work directly with senior business stakeholders and translate complex regulatory requirements into practical commercial solutions.
- Assist with broader legal and commercial matters as the Australian business continues to grow.

Ideal Candidate

- Australian-qualified lawyer with 7+ years' PQE with strong financial services regulatory exposure from either in-house or private practice.
- Strong understanding of Australian financial services regulation and the AFSL framework. Our client will consider broader corporate lawyers with a financial services overlay.
- Commercial and pragmatic, with an ability to find solutions rather than simply identify legal issues.
- Comfortable working directly with senior stakeholders and product teams.
- Agile, curious and capable of solving complex problems in a fast-moving environment.
