Carnac is seeking a Senior Mechanical and/or Project Engineer to join our multidisciplinary engineering team delivering practical, high-quality solutions for our mineral processing clients.
This is an opportunity for an engineer who thrives on variety. Rather than being confined to one site or asset, you will contribute to a diverse portfolio of short-term projects, build consulting capability, and gain exposure to industry-leading organisations across the resources sector.
The ideal candidate will have wet plant experience with a focus on piping and pump design appreciating the challenges of mineral processing.
Specialist technical development opportunities are also on offer. These include niche skills such as vapour recompression energy saving technologies, discrete element modelling (DEM) and mechanical design of refinery equipment (tanks, pressure vessels, pipe stress).
This full-time role is based at our Perth head office - free parking, close to public transport and end-of-trip facilities. We understand that work-life balance is significant which is why there is scope to work from home one to two days per week.
What you’ll do
- Perform pump calculations to improve on-site piping designs and support pump and equipment selection.
- Prepare specifications, review vendor submissions and documentation, and support procurement activities.
- Collaborate closely with in-house designers and process, structural, civil,
electrical and instrumentation engineers to deliver integrated engineering solutions.
- Prepare project schedule, cost projection and tollgate documentation.
- Liaise directly with clients, vendors, and contractors throughout project delivery.
- Lead the management of engineering deliverables.
What you’ll bring
- A bachelor’s degree or higher qualification in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering recognised by Engineers Australia.
- At least 5 years’ post-graduate engineering experience, ideally in mineral processing plants or comparable capital projects.
- Demonstrated wet processing experience and strong capability in piping equipment and pumping systems.
- Sound technical judgement, attention to detail and practical problem-solving skills.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with confidence working directly with clients.
