Resourceful Recruitment

Brisbane

A rare opportunity to take ownership of technically complex and genuinely meaningful engineering work in a niche and growing specialist contractor.

- Own the work end to end, from inspection and testing through to getting built
- Ditch the big consultancy and do real, practical engineering that's different
- Flexible working, monthly ADOs and a tight-knit team that values you

If you are an experienced Materials Engineer who loves condition assessment, durability analysis and seeing your engineering recommendations actually get built, this is the role you have been waiting for.

About the Business

This is not your typical engineering consultancy. Our client is a specialist water infrastructure contractor based north of Brisbane, delivering potable and raw water reservoir inspection, condition assessment and remediation across Queensland and New South Wales. What makes them genuinely different is their complete in-house capability across the entire lifecycle of reservoir management, from diving and ROV inspections, drone surveys and engineering assessment through to remedial design and capital construction works.

They are the only ISO 22000 food grade certified diving and construction company in Australia. Their client base includes some of Queensland's largest water utilities and their engineering team has built a strong reputation for delivering practical, high-quality technical solutions on some of the most complex and interesting water infrastructure challenges in the country.

Projects they have delivered include:

- Completing Australia's first ever full reservoir roof replacement while the asset remained online and in service, supplying water to 5,000 residents throughout construction, a project recognised as a finalist in the Australian Water Association 2025 Infrastructure Project Innovation awards
- Ongoing condition inspections across an entire 127-reservoir network
- Dive inspections and condition assessments across 60 or more reservoirs in the SEQ water network

- Preliminary condition assessments for various Councils across a range of complex and deteriorating structures

This is a business that takes pride in the quality of their work, the depth of their technical capability and the strength of the team they have built.

The Opportunity

Due to the growth of the engineering team, a Senior Materials Engineer is sought to join the business in a pivotal role. Reporting to the Engineering Manager and working alongside a close-knit team of engineers, you will take ownership of condition assessment and materials engineering deliverables across a diverse portfolio of water infrastructure assets.

This is not a role where you will hand a report over the fence and never hear about it again. You will follow the work from initial inspection through to materials testing, analysis, reporting and repair specification, and in many cases you will see the remediation get built by the in-house construction team. That end-to-end ownership is what makes this role genuinely rewarding for the right person.

What You Will Be Doing

- Leading condition assessments of concrete and steel structures including water reservoirs, bridges, culverts, sewer treatment plants and other civil infrastructure
- Conducting and interpreting non-destructive materials testing including chloride and sulfate content analysis, carbonation depth testing, compressive strength testing, ultrasonic thickness testing and coating thickness measurements
- Producing high-quality technical reports including condition inspection reports, materials testing reports, defect remediation reports and technical repair specifications
- Providing engineering support to construction activities including defect quantification, bill of quantities and repair methodologies

- Contributing to engineering design support including in office measure ups, LiDAR scanning and drafting of as-constructed drawings
- Supporting project management activities including client liaison, managing deliverable dates and contributing to tenders
- Mentoring and supporting junior engineers, including those progressing toward RPEQ registration

About You You are a practical, driven engineering professional who takes real ownership of your work and takes pride in the quality of what you produce. You are equally comfortable in the field conducting inspections as you are at your desk writing detailed technical reports. You are not looking for the politics of a large consultancy. You want to be part of a small, high-performing team where your contribution is visible and your voice is heard.

Specifically, you will bring:

- A degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical or Materials Engineering, or a related discipline
- A strong background in condition assessment, durability engineering and materials testing of concrete and steel structures
- Excellent technical report writing skills with meticulous attention to detail
- Prior exposure to civil structures including reservoirs, bridges, culverts, water treatment plants or infrastructure is transferable
- RPEQ qualification, or actively progressing toward it
- A low-ego, high work ethic approach to everything you do

What Is On Offer

- Flexible working arrangements and flexible hours for personal commitments, provided a 40-hour week is achieved
- Accrued Day Off system, earning approximately one ADO per month
- Annual discretionary bonus, consistently paid around Christmas
- Support for RPEQ registration for those progressing toward certification
- Opportunity to develop niche areas of technical interest with business case support for senior staff
