Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Power BI Engineer on behalf of our Australian client to design, develop, and maintain high-impact business intelligence solutions. In this role, you will transform raw enterprise data into actionable, decision-ready dashboards and scalable analytical models. You will partner with cross-functional stakeholders across Finance, HR, and Operations to understand business needs, build robust ETL data pipelines, and ensure reporting assets are optimized, secure, and accurate.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and deploy advanced, interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that deliver clear insights to leadership and business units.
- Create robust data models and implement star/snowflake schemas, data marts, and complex DAX measures optimized for performance.
- Manage end-to-end Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) workflows using Power Query and SQL to consolidate multi-source data into centralized warehouses.
- Engage with cross-functional teams (Finance, HR, and commercial teams) to gather reporting requirements, document solutions, and translate them into detailed technical specifications.
- Validate data integrity, enforce BI security standards, implement access controls,
and continuously fine-tune query and dashboard performance.
- Maintain thorough documentation of data models, schemas, and BI solutions while mentoring junior engineers on reporting and analytics best practices.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field (relevant Microsoft/Power BI certifications are an advantage).
- Advanced hands-on proficiency with Power BI, DAX, Power Query, and SQL for relational database querying and management.
- Robust grasp of data warehousing architecture, schema design (star and snowflake), data mart structures, and query optimization techniques.
- Proven track record of developing and maintaining robust ETL data pipelines across diverse data sources.
- Background in business intelligence or data analytics within Finance, Accounting, or HR functions.
- Excellent written and verbal English communication skills, with demonstrated ability to convey complex technical findings to non-technical business stakeholders.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to data quality, governance, and security standards.
