The General Hand role provides support across the Works & Services team, which includes the waste facility, parks & gardens and outdoor works. You will be adaptable to the needs of crews as seasonal demands require. This role will see you utilise a range of skills across functions, operate a variety of machinery and ensure teams stay safe and efficient. If you show you have the aptitude for the work, there is the possibility of full-time roles.

Key responsibilities
n
n
- Maintenance of Shire parks, gardens and reserves
n
- Provide traffic management support for projects and ongoing road maintenance
n
- Operate the sweeper as required, clearing all footpaths of debris
n
- Report any mechanical faults to the Shire's Fleet Mechanic
n
- Assist in the construction and maintenance of all civil works conducted by the Shire
n
- Attend the gate at the Shire's waste management facility
n
- Undertake refuse collection
n
- Ensure compliance with WHS legislation and Council policies
n
- Report all accidents, incidents and hazards
n
- Conduct risk assessments and job safety analyses prior to commencing tasks
n

About you
n
n
- Previous experience in one area of waste management, road construction and maintenance or parks and gardens (essential)
n
- Effective written and verbal communication skills (essential)
n
- Physically capable of carrying out the inherent requirements of the role (essential)
n
- Previous plant/machine operation experience (essential)
n
- Demonstrated knowledge of Work Health & Safety in the workplace (essential)
n
- Robust commitment to customer service (essential)
n
- Class C drivers licence (essential)
n
- Competent operation of all minor equipment such as tractors, chipper, chain-saw, brush cutter and other relevant equipment
n
- Basic horticultural skills including plant identification
n
- Sound knowledge of chemical storage, handling and application
n
- HR Licence (desirable)
n
- Chainsaw Certificate
n
- Various operator tickets (desirable), such as Grader, Forklift, Loader
n
- Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM)
n
- First Aid Certificate
n
