Business Overview: Airway Mechanical Pty Ltd is part of the Airway group of companies, proudly Australian-owned and operating since 2016. Based in Seven Hills, NSW, we specialise in the design, manufacture, and installation of HVAC systems and commercial sheetmetal ductwork. Our team delivers high-quality mechanical services across a broad range of commercial projects throughout NSW.
Position Summary: The Sheetmetal Trade Worker is responsible for the on-site installation, fabrication, and repair of sheetmetal components used in HVAC systems. The role requires technical skill, accuracy, and an understanding of various metals and fabrication techniques used in commercial mechanical services.
Duties and Responsibilities
Interpreted plans, blueprints, and technical specifications to identify required materials, dimensions, and equipment for each project.
Measured, marked, and prepared sheet metal sections to exact dimensions using templates, gauges, and precision instruments.
Cut and shaped various types of metals such as stainless steel, galvanised iron, aluminium, and mild steel using both hand tools and power equipment.
Fabricated, assembled, and installed ductwork systems and HVAC fittings for commercial projects, ensuring compliance with site requirements.
Operated equipment such as rollers, folding machines, presses, drills, and grinders to bend, form, and finish sheet metal components. Installed and secured HVAC units and associated components in office in line with project and safety standards.
Performed joining processes including welding, soldering, riveting,
and sealing to ensure airtight and durable duct connections.
Inspected and tested fabricated ductwork and fittings, carrying out adjustments and repairs as required. Conducted maintenance and repair on damaged sheet metal ducts to restore efficiency and airflow performance.
Maintained workplace safety and adhered to WHS guidelines by ensuring tools and equipment were used correctly and worksites were kept tidy.
Communicated with supervisors, contractors, and clients to provide updates on progress and resolve siterelated issues.
Worked independently and as part of a team to deliver high-quality outcomes within project timelines.
Qualifications and Experience
Certificate III in Engineering – Fabrication Trade (Sheetmetal Working) or equivalent Certificate IV in Engineering (desirable but not mandatory)
Demonstrated experience in sheetmetal fabrication and HVAC component installation White Card and relevant industry tickets (e.g. confined space, working at heights)
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and plans Strong understanding of workplace safety practices and procedures If no formal qualifications, at least three years of relevant work experience may substitute Desirable Qualities: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
High attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship Effective communication and teamwork skills Experience working on commercial HVAC projects is highly regarded
Pay: $35.00 – $50.00 per hour
