New Farm

Rhone Wine Merchant is a wine store, wine bar and private dining room in New Farm. Next door is Grape & Grazing, the restaurant that came first. Between the two sit tastings, long tables, producer dinners, and regulars who hand back the list and say, you choose.

We are looking for one sommelier to look after the wine in both.

The role

- Build and run the Rhone tasting program: the themes, the flights, the producers, the verticals and back vintages worth opening and the food served alongside.
- Look after the wine bar, the shop floor and the retail conversation. The by-the-glass list, the Coravin pours, the allocations set aside for the people who will love them. Recommend, sell, remember.
- Be the sommelier for Grape & Grazing: the list, the cellar and its rotation, the pairings, and the staff training that turns "the red one" into Grenache, old vine from sandy soils.
- Work the floor on service evenings, from mise en place to the last decanter. This is a hands-on role, not an office job.
- Host private events in Rhone, from the greeting and the first glass of Champagne to the final pour.

You

- A junior sommelier ready for the step up, a career hospitality professional with strong wine knowledge who wants to become qualified (WSET or Court of Master Sommeliers), or an experienced sommelier ready to run the show.
- You sell without selling. You read a table,

then you read the room and you know when a guest wants the story and when they just want the glass.
- You understand food. You can explain why the lamb wants Syrah with a little age on it, why the Marsanne suits the butter sauce, and how to build a tasting around the kitchen rather than beside it.
- You care as much about a well-priced Côtes du Rhône as a Côte-Rôtie
- Your hospitality is warm first and formal second.
- You know that the service matters as much as what's in the bottle.
- You hold the right to work in Australia long term.

Who this is not for We are not hiring working holiday makers. This role is for someone who wants to stay, to grow a list, a program, a team and a business, and to still be here when that work pays off. Like the best cellars, it rewards patience. If your visa has a clock on it, this role is not for you. A person who is only about the wine, we are a team that work closely together.

You also need real wine experience. If you are not there yet, please come back to us when you are.

What you get

- A small company where your name is on the program.
- Direct access to the owner, the buying and the numbers.
- Regular tastings, time with suppliers and producers and access to wine you are excited to try
- A genuine path to head sommelier as the group grows.
- Full-time, part time or casual. The role will be shaped around the right person, with a minimum of 30 hours a week.
