Turn real customer problems into practical designs and validated products.
ChromeGuard designs and manufactures protection solutions for mining and civil equipment. We work directly with customers to reduce risk and improve productivity in demanding operating environments, and we are growing our product range and global customer base.
We are looking for a hands-on mechanical designer who can combine strong CAD capability with confident customer communication. You will join our Sales team, own qualified technical opportunities from discovery through prototype fitment and field validation, then complete a clear handover to Product Development for final engineering and release.
The role
Reporting to the Sales Manager, you will be the technical link between customers, BDMs, distributors and the teams that turn an idea into a physical product. You will investigate the need, create and present concepts, coordinate prototypes and stay involved through fitment and validation. Working closely with Product Development, drafting, workshop and production, you will then hand over a complete package for final verification, production drawings, BOMs, controlled documentation and formal release.
What you will be doing
- Own qualified opportunities and the Sales Engineering workflow from intake through validation, handover or closure, including clear priorities, actions and status updates.
- Lead discovery with customers, BDMs and distributors; obtain and interpret the machine details, measurements, photographs, constraints, timing and required outcome, including from remote international stakeholders.
- Create sketches, 3D CAD models, layouts and prototype-level drawings that consider fit, movement, clearances, installation, durability, fabrication and assembly.
- Develop and present practical concepts and technical proposals, clearly explaining the perks, assumptions, limitations, information gaps and next steps.
- Coordinate approved prototype manufacture, fitment and trials; attend or oversee site assessments, installations and field validations, then drive agreed iterations through to validation or closure.
- Complete a structured post-validation handover covering the customer need, validated design intent, CAD and prototype drawings, fitment outcomes, acceptance criteria, risks and unresolved items.
- Remain the Sales and customer liaison after handover, providing clarification, protecting the agreed scope and keeping stakeholders informed.
- Turn field learning into product improvements, technical advice, while maintaining accurate opportunity records.
What we are looking for
- Experience in industrial product development, mechanical design, technical sales support or a related practical role.
- Strong 3D CAD capability, preferably in SolidWorks, including concept models, layouts and drawings suitable for prototype manufacture.
- Practical mechanical design judgement across fit, movement, clearances, installation, durability, fabrication and assembly.
- A clear, confident communication style and the ability to ask precise questions,
present concepts and translate customer needs into defined technical requirements.
- Strong problem-solving, organisation and follow-through across several opportunities, stakeholders and site actions.
- A hands-on approach and willingness to visit sites, investigate issues and follow a product through to a validated outcome.
- A current driver's licence.
Experience with mining or heavy equipment, fabrication, workshop or manufacturing environments, field installations, product trials or technical documentation would be highly regarded.
Why join ChromeGuard
- Own meaningful technical work from the first customer conversation through to a product proven in the field.
- See your designs move beyond CAD into prototype manufacture, installation and real operating conditions.
- Work across customers and practical delivery teams in a growing Australian product business with an international customer base.
