Job Description
About the role
We are growing our Risk and Compliance team and seeking two Risk Officers to strengthen our capability across risk assessment, controls assurance and business resilience.
RWWA’s racing and sports wagering activities offer varied and challenging risk work in a highly regulated industry. Our responsibilities include supporting the development and long-term sustainability of WA’s racing industry, safeguarding racing integrity and animal welfare, and meeting obligations relating to responsible wagering, anti-money laundering and privacy. This is an opportunity to apply your skills and develop broader risk expertise while helping shape RWWA’s risk practices as we build our capability and maturity.
Reporting to the Risk and Compliance Team Lead, you will share business partnering responsibilities with colleagues in the risk team. Alongside this shared work, there is scope to lead specific areas of controls assurance or business resilience. In this second line role, you will provide advice, oversight and constructive challenge to business owners, who remain accountable for managing their risks.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Partner with business owners to assess risks,
review incidents and issues, monitor agreed actions and escalate significant matters.
- Develop and deliver risk-based control testing plans, assess control design and operating effectiveness, document findings and recommend practical improvements.
- Assess business disruption impacts and critical dependencies, and work with business owners to develop continuity plans and recovery strategies. Maintain crisis arrangements, coordinate exercises and support crisis response, using lessons learned to strengthen resilience.
- Work with business users to identify information and reporting needs, and help develop and maintain workflows, reports and dashboards in Protecht, our online governance, risk and compliance (GRC) system. Keep risk and control information accurate through data entry, validation and updates.
- Provide practical advice and training, and improve risk frameworks, tools and guidance.
Qualifications
About you
We welcome applications from experienced risk professionals looking to broaden their expertise and professionals seeking to move into risk from disciplines such as accounting and finance, business analysis, technology, engineering, governance, projects or operations. You will bring a track record of delivering practical outcomes in a qualified setting and demonstrate the following capabilities.
What you will bring
- An understanding of risk management principles and processes, with the ability to apply them to practical business situations.
- Analytical and conceptual thinking, including the ability to understand complex processes, recognise dependencies and assess their implications for business objectives.
- Sound judgement and practical problem solving, with the ability to evaluate evidence, challenge assumptions, identify underlying causes and recommend proportionate solutions.
- Ability to work effectively with business systems,
data and reporting, maintain accurate information, identify inconsistencies and communicate clear insights.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement, including building trusted relationships, understanding different perspectives, explaining complex issues clearly and influencing stakeholders to act on practical recommendations.
- Initiative, adaptability and accountability, including learning and applying new concepts, managing priorities and following through on agreed outcomes with integrity and professional discretion.
Desirable experience
Experience in risk management, controls assurance, compliance or business continuity would be valuable. Experience relevant to risk management may also come from audit, banking, finance, business analysis, projects, technology or operations.
