Your recent role
As an APS6 External Budget Officer, you will support the management of departmental budget estimates and provide informed advice across the Commonwealth Budget cycle.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing and reviewing budget estimate models
- Maintaining accurate estimates data in the Central Budget Management System and internal budgeting systems
- Supporting business areas to develop policy costings for Cabinet Submissions and New Policy Proposals
- Advising business areas and executives on Commonwealth Budget processes
- Contributing to Portfolio Budget Statements and Additional Estimates Statements
- Preparing briefs on budget processes, estimates and costing matters for senior executives and Ministers
- Building effective relationships with internal stakeholders and central agencies
What you'll need to succeed
To succeed in this APS6 External Budget Officer position, you will require:
- Professional accounting qualifications, or progress towards certification
- Strong analytical capability and proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Confident written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to deliver accurate work in a high-tempo environment
- Experience with government budgeting processes and financial frameworks
