Hobsons Bay Yacht Club is looking for an experienced Yard & Marina Manager to take responsibility for the day to day operation of our busy boatyard, marina and associated facilities.
Established in 1888, HBYC is a proud, family and community oriented yacht club in the heart of Williamstown's maritime precinct. With a 107 boat marina, 24 boat hardstand, 19 swing moorings, slipway, workshop, club boats and extensive marine facilities, no two days in this role are quite the same.
THE ROLE
This is a hands on management position for someone who understands boats, enjoys working outdoors and can confidently manage the competing demands of a busy marine workplace.
You'll be responsible for:
- Managing the day to day operation of the marina, hardstand, yard and slipway
- Coordinating the safe launching, retrieval and movement of vessels
- Managing yard contractors and external trades
- Maintaining marina infrastructure, plant, equipment and club boats
- Coordinating hardstand, berth and yard allocations
- Ensuring members, contractors and visitors follow HBYC's safety requirements
- Conducting inductions and providing guidance to members using yard and marina equipment
- Monitoring weather, tides, equipment and operational risks
- Maintaining accurate yard, equipment and safety records
- Coordinating maintenance and identifying opportunities to improve the yard and marina
- Working closely with the Club Manager, Club Captain, committees, members and volunteers
THIS ROLE WILL SUIT YOU IF...
You're the sort of person who can walk into a busy boatyard and immediately start working out what needs to happen, what could go wrong and what needs to happen first.
- You will ideally have:
- Strong practical experience in a boatyard, marina or slipway environment
- Proven experience launching, retrieving, lifting and moving boats
- Confidence operating and managing marine plant and equipment
- A strong understanding of OH&S;, risk management and safe work practices
- Experience coordinating contractors and trades
- The confidence to work with members, including having the conversation when something isn't safe or can't be done
- Good organisational and record keeping skills
- A genuine understanding and appreciation of the marine environment
ESSENTIAL
- Demonstrated industry experience operating a marina, yard and/or slipway operations
- Experience with slipping and moving vessels
- Current Victorian Driver Licence
- Victorian Recreational Boating Licence
- Ability to safely perform the inherent physical requirements of the role
- Working with Children Check, or ability to obtain one
DESIRABLE
We'd love to hear from applicants with some of the following:
- Shipwright or boatbuilding qualifications
- Marina Management qualification
- Basic Rigging
- First Aid Level 2
- Forklift and/or EWP
- Test & Tag
- Coxswain Certificate
Don't have every desirable qualification? That's OK. Practical experience, sound judgement and a strong safety mindset are highly valued.
WHAT WE OFFER
Permanent full-time position
38 hours per week, with flexibility around the operational requirements of the club
$80,000–$90,000 + superannuation + phone allowance, depending on experience and qualifications
A hands on role in one of Williamstown's established maritime environments
