The Opportunity
As the Governance and Policy Coordinator at the City of Perth, you will oversee the City’s governance function and coordinate a team of governance professionals to support effective decision-making, legislative compliance and organisational assurance.
Reporting to the Alliance Manager Governance and Policy within our Governance and Strategy team, your responsibilities would primarily include:
- Overseeing the City’s governance frameworks, policies, procedures and registers to ensure legislative compliance and alignment with Council decisions and better-practice standards;
- Coordinating Council and Committee processes, including the preparation and quality assurance of agendas, reports, briefing materials and minutes;
- Providing authoritative advice on governance, probity, compliance and legislative matters to the Executive Leadership Team, Elected Members and senior stakeholders; and
- Coordinating governance, electoral, audit and assurance activities while supporting the capability and performance of the Governance and Policy team.
About You
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
- Extensive knowledge of governance and electoral requirements within a local government environment, including the ability to interpret and apply the Local Government Act, local laws,
policies and regulatory frameworks;
- Extensive experience supporting Council and Committee processes, including the coordination and quality assurance of agendas, minutes and decision-making documentation;
- Solid experience in governance systems, policy development and document management, including the application of legislative and accountability frameworks;
- Highly developed written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to prepare complex governance documentation and provide clear, professional advice to a range of stakeholders;
- Demonstrated experience coordinating and supporting professional teams within a collaborative, accountable and high-performing environment;
- Sound judgement and discretion when managing confidential, sensitive or high-risk governance matters; and
- A tertiary qualification in Law, Governance, Public Administration or a related discipline, or substantial equivalent experience.

Eligibility
To be eligible to work for us, you will need to demonstrate:
- A right to work in Australia, such as a birth certificate, current passport or current visa;
- A satisfactory National Police Clearance dated within the preceding three months; and
- The ability to work outside normal business hours, including evenings.
