About the role
We are seeking an experienced Quality Control / Quality Assurance (QC/QA) professional to join our coatings team, supporting high-quality surface preparation, protective coating and corrosion-control projects across Defence, oil & gas, mining and other industrial sectors. This role will suit a technically minded quality qualified with desired experience in protective coatings, corrosion control and inspection, who can ensure coating activities comply with project specifications, applicable standards and customer requirements.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct QC/QA inspections of surface preparation and protective coating applications.
- Verify surface cleanliness, profile, environmental conditions and coating application parameters.
- Perform and document inspections including surface preparation and cleanliness, surface profile measurements, ambient condition monitoring, wet and dry film thickness measurements, coating application and cure cycles, and destructive and non-destructive testing.
- Review coating materials, batch numbers, technical data sheets and application requirements.
- Ensure work is completed in accordance with approved ITPs, specifications, procedures and project documentation.
- Prepare inspection reports, QA records, non-conformance reports, ITPs and coating inspection documentation.
- Identify defects and non-conformances and work with production/site teams to implement corrective actions.
- Liaise with clients, inspectors, engineers and project personnel on quality requirements.
- Maintain accurate traceability and quality records throughout projects.
- Support continuous improvement of coating processes and QA systems.
About you
- Previous experience in QC/QA within protective coatings, corrosion control, fabrication, defence, marine or heavy industrial environments.
- Strong knowledge of surface preparation and protective coating systems.
- Practical experience with coating inspection equipment and testing methods.
- Ability to interpret coating specifications, drawings, ITPs and technical documentation.
- Ability to prepare ITPs in accordance with customer specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and a methodical approach to quality documentation.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to read and interpret Australian and ISO standards.
- NACE/AMPP Coating Inspector certification — Level 1, 2 or higher (desired).
- Relevant trade, engineering, materials, coatings or quality qualification (desired).
