Bendigo

Positive behaviour support practitioner - Psychology undergrads, occupational therapists, psychologists, social workers, criminologists, and counsellors have a read of this

Maybe you’ve never seriously considered positive behaviour support, maybe you are a gun practitioner already.

Either way, we’d like to hear from you.

Bespoke Behaviour is growing our established Bendigo team, and we’re looking for thoughtful people who enjoy understanding behaviour, working through complex situations and helping turn good clinical ideas into something that actually works in everyday life.

We are absolutely interested in experienced Behaviour Support Practitioners.

But we’re also open to people from psychology, occupational therapy, social work, education, counselling, mental health, Support Coordination and disability backgrounds who may be curious about moving into PBS.

Why Bendigo matters to us

We really like Bendigo.

We already have a great team there, established relationships across the region and practitioners doing genuinely interesting work.

This is not a case of a large provider deciding to “expand into regional Victoria” and dropping one person into Bendigo to figure it out alone.

You’ll be joining an existing local team, while still having access to experienced supervisors, clinical leaders and practitioners across the wider Bespoke group.

Regional practice should not mean practising in isolation.

If you hit a difficult case, an ethical grey area or simply find yourself thinking, “I’m not quite sure what to do next,” there should be good people around you to think it through with.

What Positive Behaviour Support actually looks like

At its best, PBS is incredibly compelling work.

You are trying to understand behaviour in the context of a person’s life, relationships, environment, communication, history and support systems.

You’ll work with participants, families, support workers and other professionals to understand what is happening, why it may be happening, and what practical changes could improve everyday life.

The role includes things like:

- functional behaviour assessment

- developing Behaviour Support Plans

- working directly with participants and families

- coaching support workers and support teams

- collaborating with allied health and other professionals

- helping teams implement strategies in real-life settings

- reviewing what is and isn’t working

- working through complex cases and competing perspectives

Yes, there are reports.

Yes, there are Behaviour Support Plans.

But we don’t think a beautifully written plan is much use if nobody can actually use it.

We care about whether the strategy makes sense to the person implementing it.

We care about whether it works on a difficult shift.

We care about whether the participant’s life actually gets better.

That is the kind of practice we want to build.

Supervision is a real part of the job

One of the things we take seriously at Bespoke is supervision.

Practitioners have access to experienced supervisors and clinical leaders, regular supervision and reflective practice, and plenty of opportunity to talk through cases that do not have neat answers.

You are not expected to know everything.

We actually like practitioners who ask questions.

We like people who can say, “I’m not sure yet.”

We like pulling difficult cases apart together and working toward something useful.

If you are moving into PBS from another profession, we’ll support you to learn the discipline rather than expecting you to magically arrive knowing everything.

If you are already experienced in PBS, we want this to be somewhere you can sharpen your thinking, work with more complex cases and continue developing as a practitioner.

You might already be closer to PBS than you think

Some very good Behaviour Support Practitioners started somewhere else.

We’d particularly like to hear from people with backgrounds in:

- Positive Behaviour Support

- psychology

- provisional psychology

- occupational therapy

- social work

- teaching or Department of Education roles

- counselling

- mental health

- rehabilitation

- Support Coordination

- disability and community services

You’ll need an appropriate relevant qualification and to meet the requirements for practising within Positive Behaviour Support.

Previous PBS experience is welcome, but it is not essential for every applicant.

Curiosity, judgement, relationship skills and a willingness to keep learning matter a lot.

What working at Bespoke feels like

You’ll have autonomy over your work without being left on an island.

You’ll be encouraged to think critically rather than simply follow templates.

You’ll work with people who care about implementation as much as assessment.

You’ll have experienced clinicians around you when cases get difficult.

You’ll be part of a Bendigo team that we genuinely value and intend to keep investing in.

And if you want to develop into advanced practice, supervision or leadership over time, there is room to do that.

We want people to become better practitioners while they are here.

Curious, but not sure whether you want the job?

That is completely fine.

You do not need to have decided that Positive Behaviour Support is your next career before speaking with us.

If you live in or around Bendigo and are reading this thinking, “Actually, I’ve never really considered PBS before,” we’re happy to tell you what the work looks like, what the transition involves and whether it might suit you.

No elaborate pitch required.

Apply through SEEK or get in touch for a confidential conversation.
