As part of the Customer & Transformation Directorate, the Information and Communications Technology team enables the delivery of secure, contemporary and customer-focused technology services across Council.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Head of IT Services, the Cyber Security Lead is responsible for leading and maturing the cyber security capability across the City of Boroondara.
This role will drive the development, implementation and continuous improvement of cyber security strategy, governance frameworks, policies and controls to ensure Council's systems, networks, applications and data remain secure and resilient. Working closely with senior leaders, ICT teams and external partners, the Cyber Security Lead will provide expert advice, lead cyber security initiatives and influence strategic technology decisions across the organisation.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in strengthening cyber resilience, leading incident response activities, improving compliance outcomes and embedding a strong cyber security culture throughout the organisation.
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications in Cyber Security, Information Security, Computer Science, Information Systems or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
- Demonstrated experience leading cyber security functions within a complex enterprise environment.
- Strong experience developing and implementing cyber security strategies, frameworks, policies, controls and governance practices.
- Excellent understanding of cyber security legislation, regulatory requirements, standards and industry best practice.
- Understanding of Victorian Protective Data Security Standards (VPDSS) and related security frameworks.
- Proven capability leading cyber security incident response, remediation and organisational resilience initiatives.
- Experience managing cyber security compliance, assurance and audit programs.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence senior leaders, technical teams, vendors and external partners.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, including coaching, mentoring and developing team members.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical matters to diverse audiences.
- Strategic thinking, problem-solving and decision-making capability.
