About the role

The Operations and Capability Branch comprises of four sections and is responsible for strengthening operational capability, workforce development, governance, and service delivery across the Sheriff's Office. The branch plays a critical role in supporting frontline operations through effective training, logistics, policy development, and oversight of the Sheriff's Operations Centre (SOC).

The Manager Operations and Capability leads the coordination and delivery of training, logistics, and policy and procedure functions, ensuring these services are aligned, responsive, and support operational excellence across the state. The role also oversees the SOC, a 24/7 coordination hub that enables statewide operational awareness, real-time decision-making, and timely response to emerging issues.

Working closely with the Executive Manager Operations and Capability, the position provides strategic advice on operational trends, risks, and emerging issues, contributing to continuous improvement and informed decision-making. The role also drives capability development initiatives to ensure staff are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and resources required to meet evolving operational demands.

In addition, the Manager contributes to emergency management arrangements and supports coordinated responses to incidents impacting courts and tribunals across Western Australia.

The Sheriff’s Office of Western Australia plays a vital role in supporting the justice system and community safety across the State. Our responsibilities include:

- Enforcing civil court orders

- Enforcing fines, penalties and infringement notices

- Serving witness summonses on behalf of the State

- Delivering court and tribunal security and custodial services

- Managing jury services across Western Australia.

Suitability Requirements

Through the recruitment process, we will be looking for a candidate who can demonstrate skills, experience and attributes in relation to the following:

identify emerging risks and trends, and develop initiatives that support organisational objectives and operational excellence.
- Achieves Results - Demonstrated ability to lead and deliver complex programs and services, including training, logistics, policy, or operational support functions, ensuring outcomes are achieved through effective planning, prioritisation, resource management and continuous improvement.
- Builds Productive Relationships - Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering collaboration, consultation and shared ownership of operational and capability outcomes.
- Communicates and Influences Effectively - Highly developed communication and influencing skills, including the ability to provide clear and accurate advice, prepare high-quality reports and briefings, and effectively communicate complex operational information to diverse audiences to support informed decision-making.
