Skillforce Recruitment are seeking experienced Forklift Operators for our Valued Client for ongoing Temp to Perm work

Position Overview

The Forklift Operator / Yard Hand is responsible for loading, unloading, and transporting raw and finished steel products throughout the facility. This role directly impacts production flow by ensuring steel is correctly positioned for the rigging, pickling (acid treating), dipping, and inspection phases, while strictly adhering to rigorous workplace health and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Material Handling & Staging: Safely transport large, heavy, and awkward structural steel items, custom bolts, and fabricated components to different production lines and workstations.

Loading & Unloading: Efficiently unload incoming raw steel from client transport and load completed steel products onto outgoing flatbeds or trailers.

Pre- and Post-Process Sorting: Organise steel bundles according to production schedules, job cards, and specific chemical treating requirements.

Quality & Yard Control: Assist in identifying material damage or shortages prior to dipping, and ensure finished products are organised safely in the yard to prevent damage.

Equipment Maintenance: Conduct mandatory daily pre-start inspections on forklifts (checking hydraulics, brakes, and tires)



and log any mechanical issues or maintenance requirements.

General Yard Labor: Pivot to assisting the rigging or production teams with manual handling, yard housekeeping, and steel preparation when forklift duties are caught up.

Job Requirements & Qualifications

Licensing: A current, valid High Risk Work Forklift License LF

Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience operating heavy counterbalance forklifts, ideally within a heavy manufacturing, steel fabrication, industrial yard.

Physical Fitness: High physical capacity to handle manual labor, heavy lifting, and the stamina to work productively in a hot, noisy, and quick-paced industrial setting.

Safety Mindset: Uncompromising commitment to Work Health and Safety (WHS) protocols, given the proximity to heavy moving plants and hazardous chemicals.

Pre-Employment Criteria: Ability to pass a mandatory pre-employment medical, including rigorous drug and alcohol screening.

Working Conditions Primarily an outdoor yard or open-air industrial shed setting, exposed to varying weather conditions, loud noise, and specialised industrial equipment
