The Role

As the Work, Health and Safety Coordinator, you will be responsible for driving effective implementation, continuous improvement, engagement and education of BHAC's Work Health and Safety Management System.

This role plays a critical, hands-on leadership role in overhauling BHAC’s safety policies, operational procedures and compliance requirements to assist in ensuring regulatory compliance and alignment with best practice, while driving the process of continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

- WHS Framework, System & Policies: Maintain and overhaul WHS policies, standard operating procedures, and procedure, while acting as a system superuser to drive the roll-out and adoption of the WHS Management System.

- Remote Safety & Fleet Support: Collaborate with the Fleet Coordinator to audit and enforce vehicle safety, mobile plant requirements, pre-start checks, and safe transit protocols for remote and homeland travel.

- Risk Management & Audits: Coordinate workplace risk assessments, safety inspections, and site audits, while managing organisational risk registers and monitoring corrective actions.

- Incident Management & Reporting:



Lead incident, hazard, and near-miss investigations, compile detailed reports, analyse WHS data for trends, and coordinate WHS Committee activities.

- Training & Compliance: Partner with the People & Culture department to track staff licenses, competencies, and qualifications, and support the delivery of safety inductions and operational trainings.

- Workers' Compensation: Assist People & Culture in managing workers' compensation, injury management, and return-to-work processes in coordination with employees, insurers, and rehabilitation providers.

About You:

- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (minimum requirement)

- Demonstrated experience (minimum 2-3 years) in a WHS orientated or similar role.

- Sound understanding of Work Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and codes of practice.

- Experience conducting incident investigations, audits, and risk assessments.

- High level of written and verbal communication skills, including report writing.

- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and WHS management systems.

- Experience supporting workers' compensation and injury management processes.

- Confidence delivering training and engaging stakeholders at all levels.

- Mandatory Clearances & Licenses:

- Current Australian C-Class Driver’s Licence.

- National Police Check.

- Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card) or ability to obtain.

- Ability to obtain and maintain a Northern Land Council (NLC) permit.

- Ability to travel to Maningrida frequently on small aircraft as required.
