Farm Hand – Newcastle Pastoral Company

Newcastle Pastoral Company owns and manages several properties across the Tea Gardens area of New South Wales. The business is primarily a cattle operation, running Angus cattle across multiple properties, with a focus on improving livestock performance, land management and property infrastructure.

We are entering an exciting period of development, with significant upgrades underway across fencing, stockyards, water infrastructure, pastures, roads and general property improvements.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a full-time, permanent Farm Hand to join our team and assist our Farm Manager across the properties.

This is a practical, hands-on role suited to someone who is motivated, reliable and interested in building a career in farming. The role is designed to be educational, providing the successful applicant with the opportunity to begin or expand their knowledge of livestock management, property maintenance, fencing, machinery operation, pasture improvement and general farming practices.

The Farm Hand will work closely with the Farm Manager and wider team to support the day-to-day operation and maintenance of livestock and property across Newcastle Pastoral Company’s Mid Coast NSW holdings.

This role will suit someone who enjoys working outdoors, is willing to learn, and takes pride in doing practical work properly. Previous farming experience will be looked upon favourably, but the right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn are just as important.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A willingness to learn and take direction from the Farm Manager

- The ability to work as part of a small team

- Good communication skills and a respectful approach to work

- A strong commitment to animal welfare and safe work practices

- Australian citizenship, permanent residency or full Australian work rights

Previous experience in farming, livestock, fencing, machinery or general property maintenance will be well regarded, but is not essential for the right applicant.

Desirable Experience

Experience in the following areas will be highly regarded:

- Cattle handling, mustering, yard work and general livestock care

- Fencing repairs and new fence construction

- Operating tractors, side-by-sides, loaders or other farm machinery

- Pasture improvement, weed control and fertiliser application

- Water systems maintenance, including troughs, tanks, pipelines and pumps

- General rural property maintenance

- Working across multiple properties or in a small team setting

Key Responsibilities

The role will include, but is not limited to:

- Assisting the Farm Manager with day-to-day farming operations across several properties





- Supporting Angus cattle operations, including mustering, yard work, drafting and general livestock care

- Assisting with feeding, checking livestock, monitoring water points and general animal welfare

- Helping with fencing repairs, new fence construction and property boundary maintenance

- Supporting pasture improvement works, including seeding, fertilising, weed control and paddock preparation

- Assisting with maintenance and repair of water infrastructure, including troughs, tanks, pipelines and pumps

- Operating farm vehicles and machinery under direction and in line with experience

- Assisting with stockyards, laneways, roads, drains and general infrastructure upgrades

- Carrying out general farm and property maintenance duties as required

- Learning and developing practical farming skills under the guidance of the Farm Manager

- Following workplace health and safety procedures and animal welfare standards at all times
