Our programs include the ANZAC and Hunter Class frigates and air defence applications for Army and Air Force, and Range applications. Through our longstanding and ongoing collaboration with Defence, CEA Technologies has undertaken research and development into all aspects of active electronically scanned array technologies. This has resulted in the creation of a highly modular and scalable product suite, which have become integral to a wide range of critical Defence capabilities.
The Position
We’re looking for a Level 2 Power Electronics Engineer to join our growing Power Electronics Engineering Design Team in Melbourne. You will be responsible for design, measurement, documentation and research tasks across the power electronics domain, working within a multi-disciplinary specialist design team.
Key Responsibilities
- Performing detailed power electronics circuit and/or system design with minimal supervision.
- Selection and sourcing of components.
- Involvement in the CAD of PCBs.
- Planning and carrying out testing, from prototype to complete system level.
- Working on R&D; projects without well-defined specifications.
- Documentation of designs and procedures.
- Working closely with the RF, Hardware, Software and Mechanical Engineering teams.
- Providing support to the production team.
- Some project/ task specific research, analysis and report writing.
- Internal technical presentations.

Our Ideal Candidate
- Tertiary qualifications of a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical/Electronics) or higher with a minimum of 3 years (up to 8 years) experience in power electronic circuit and/or electrical system design.
- Well-developed technical competence in power electronics.
- Experience with hands-on power electronics working on equipment above 5kW.
- Experience in design of power electronics analogue and digital control systems.
- Strong knowledge of Quality Assurance processes.
- Thorough understanding of fundamental power electronics theory.
- Ability to analyse and solve problems logically and proactively.
- An inquiring mind and a commitment to continued learning.
- Ability to work closely within a team.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Ability to produce an end product requiring minimal rework.
- Familiarity with test equipment and measurement techniques.
- Good practical skills including soldering.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
Eligibility
- An Australian Citizen;
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an AGSVA clearance – Negative Vetting 1.
