The Opportunity:
We are seeking a dedicated Head of Science specialist with strong interpersonal and organisational skills. The role of the Head of Science is focused on working collaboratively with members of the Science faculty and other members of the curriculum team, including the learning support department, in supporting students with diverse learning needs. Further to this, the science faculty is a high achieving department in terms of academia, and we are searching for someone who can excel in this area. This is a fantastic opportunity to lead and teach in engaging Science lessons to students in Years 7–12, with proven expertise in at least two Stage 6 Science courses.
Key Criteria
Demonstrated ability to innovatively lead and manage a Science Faculty team, ensuring effective implementation of inclusive education practices throughout the school and compliance with all NESA requirements.
Commitment to continual improvement and effective use of data to differentiate the curriculum and address the learning needs of all students.
Demonstrates the standard descriptors at the lead teacher level in accordance with the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers.
Demonstrated outstanding subject knowledge, and a willingness to integrate creative pedagogy that both supports and challenges students, contributing to the overall academic and pastoral care of our students.
Strong collaboration skills with teachers and the leadership team.
Be proactive and show initiative to lead the development of best practice strategies in an effective departmental team.
Supervise the programming and maintenance of registers for all NESA syllabi covered by this department
Demonstrate excellent classroom management skills focused on student well-being and academic success.
Encourage and enable students to experience and achieve over and above that offered through official NESA courses e.g. competitions, challenge days and extension programs
Ability to manage resources and budget effectively
Liaise with the Head of Academic Quality to establish assessment procedure within the guidelines of NESA
A strong work ethic, displaying determination, self-motivation and curiosity
Support and mentor teachers in delivering engaging and effective lessons
Induct and mentor new staff in accordance with the College's Induction and Mentoring program
Managing time effectively and the ability to work on multiple deadlines simultaneously.
Sensitive handling of parental expectations, particularly where these are unrealistic.

Manage risk and compliance by reporting all incidents or hazards that may cause injury or illness, and any damage or maintenance requirements affecting the safety of the workplace.

Support the emotional and social wellbeing of colleagues.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
Hold a current Working with Children Check (WWCC)
Be a NESA registered teacher
Demonstrated ability to teach and lead Stages 4 - 6 NESA Science Curriculum, where students have achieved in top Bands/marks at all year levels
Demonstrated ability to liaise successfully with students, staff and parents.
