Paralympics Australia exists to lead Paralympic sport and create a more inclusive world. As the peak body for Paralympic sport in Australia, we have 24 member organisations and are responsible for selecting and managing the Australian Paralympic Teams to Summer and Winter Games.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Finance Manager, the Financial Accountant will play an instrumental role both within the Finance Team and providing professional accounting and financial support across the organisation. You will manage month-end reporting, assist with budgeting and forecasting, support year-end processes, oversee payroll activities and relevant compliance requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an accountant who enjoys working across a broad range of financial responsibilities and wants to contribute to continuous improvement within a purpose-driven organisation. The role can be based at our Sydney or Melbourne office.

The Person

The ideal candidate will be positive, energetic and enjoy a busy and dynamic role. You are prepared to 'roll up your sleeves' to get the job done and are willing to assist where help is needed. Your friendly nature and fresh ideas to improve systems and processes will be a great compliment to the PA team.

You will bring highly developed attention to detail and problem-solving skills along with an ability to manage multiple activities at the same time. You are someone who enjoys a hybrid environment and proactively seeks out opportunities to deliver exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

Manage month-end financial reporting processes including balance sheet reconciliations and process standing journals.

Assist in the preparation of monthly management reporting

Support external audit and grant acquittal processes providing necessary information and responding to queries

Assist with the development of budgets including liaising with department managers to monitor financial performance and budget variances





Oversee the monthly payroll function including management of monthly and year-end lodgements (i.e. STP, Workcover, Payroll Tax) and associated reconciliations

Assist the Senior Finance Manager with financial analysis, organisational reporting and business insurances

Maintain the general ledger including fixed asset register.

Assist with statutory reporting requirements to ensure compliance

Assist with the day-to-day management of the team, providing guidance and support.

Key Competencies

Demonstrated experience as a Financial Accountant or your first move from a Chartered/CPA Accounting firm to an industry role (3-5 years)

Strong knowledge of the Australian Accounting system

Experience with systems including Xero and CRMs is ideal, or relevant competency in financial systems

Advanced understanding and application of Microsoft Office suite

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster trusting stakeholder relationships and a 'here to help' attitude

Attention to detail, ensuring accuracy and maintaining confidentiality in all tasks

Solid written and verbal communication skills with excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to a range of stakeholders.

Education and Training

A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or similar

CPA Australia or Chartered Accountant & New Zealand Membership

Employee Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain)
