Job Description
About Us
n
Bridgit is a leading non-bank lender transforming the way Australians access property equity. Purpose-built to make property transactions faster and easier, we pioneered the Buy now, Sell Later solution – empowering homeowners to unlock their property equity and move on their terms. With a simple digital application, fast approvals, and flexible loan options, we're making property finance seamless and stress-free.
n
We're now five years old and making huge strides. We've accredited over three-quarters of Australia's broker network, and launched white label solutions with Australia's largest aggregators – Connective, Aussie Home Loans, Finsure, and Loan Market Group – and we're just getting started.
n
Our momentum has been recognised with awards including Best Growth Story at the **** Fintech Awards, the **** Finder People's Choice Award for Lending Innovation, Deloitte's Tech Fast *******, and a place among LinkedIn's Top 20 Startups in Australia ****.
n
The difference you'll make
n
Money that moves through Bridgit has to be right, to the cent, every time. As a Senior Backend Engineer in our banking squad, you'll own the systems that make that true: the double-entry ledger, accounting engine, and payment flows that record every drawdown, repayment, interest accrual, and fee across the life of a loan.
n
This is a hands‐on senior role for someone who genuinely enjoys the hard parts of financial engineering - correctness under concurrency, idempotent money movement, reconciliation, and audit trails you'd stake the business on. You'll design and build these systems end to end, set a high technical bar through your own work and code reviews, and directly shape how reliably our customers manage their funds throughout their home‐owning journey.
n
What you'll do
n
n
Design, build, and own our double-entry ledger and accounting engine - the chart of accounts, journal entries, postings, and balances that record every movement of money across loan origination, drawdowns, repayments, interest, and fees.
n
Build idempotent, fault‐tolerant transaction flows and integrate with payment rails and banking partners (e.g. NPP/PayTo, BECS/direct entry, card and settlement providers).
n
Implement interest accrual and calculation, settlement,
and fee logic with a level of correctness and consistency appropriate to regulated financial data.
n
Design and run reconciliation processes and immutable audit trails, so every balance can be explained and every discrepancy surfaced early.
n
Write exceptionally well-tested, fault‐tolerant code, and treat data integrity, consistency, and auditability as first‐class requirements rather than afterthoughts.
n
Guide design discussions and code reviews within the squad, championing backend best practices and a culture of uncompromising quality and security.
n
Own features end to end - from architecture through to production - and drive the "how" in ambiguous problem spaces.
n
Design for observability, monitoring, and incident response, building systems that are debuggable and auditable in production.
n
Execute data migrations, backfills, and production changes safely in systems where data correctness is critical.
n
Mentor and lift the technical bar across the team through your example, feedback, and reviews.
n
n
What you'll bring
n
n
5+ years' experience as a software engineer, with a strong focus on backend systems.
n
Hands‐on experience building ledger, accounting, or core banking systems - double-entry ledgers, reconciliation, settlements - ideally built or substantially owned from the ground up.
n
Solid grasp of financial domain concepts: double‐entry bookkeeping, chart of accounts, reconciliation, interest calculation, settlements, and idempotent transaction handling.
n
Strong backend fundamentals: relational databases, data integrity, transaction isolation, concurrency control, and API design.
n
Experience designing systems with high levels of correctness, consistency, and fault tolerance, especially where financial accuracy is critical.
n
Demonstrated experience working in regulated environments, with an understanding of compliance,
auditability, and data governance (e.g. ASIC, APRA, PCI-DSS, SOC 2, or similar).
n
Proven experience owning system architecture for complex, real‐world applications, including evolving systems safely over time.
n
Comfortable handling data migrations, backfills, and production changes in systems where getting it wrong is expensive.
n
Thinks from first principles and can break complex system problems down to fundamentals rather than reaching for default patterns.
n
High attention to detail, especially around financial data, edge cases, and production scenarios.
n
Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain technical trade‐offs clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
n
A positive, pragmatic attitude and strong interpersonal skills.
n
n
Nice to have
n
n
Experience with payment gateways and banking integrations (NPP/PayTo, BECS/direct entry, card rails, or bank partner APIs).
n
Background in lending, fintech, or payments platforms.
n
Familiarity with event-driven architectures and eventual-consistency patterns in a financial context.
n
Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical workstreams (this is a senior IC role, not a management one - but leadership instincts are welcome).
n
n
