Overview

Are you ready to play a pivotal role in shaping Australia's energy future? Our client, a well-established EPC contractor, is at the forefront of delivering major transmission and HV substation projects across the country. With a growing project pipeline, they are seeking a highly skilled Senior Estimator to join their team and take charge of the pricing strategy for some of Australia's most significant grid infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities
n
As a Senior Estimator, you will be responsible for:
n
n
Preparing comprehensive and detailed cost estimates for transmission and HV substation projects, from concept through to tender submission.
n
Managing the end-to-end RFQ process, including issuing requests for quotes and negotiating with suppliers to secure the best possible pricing.
n
Developing and maintaining pricing for labour, plant, materials, civil works, and subcontract packages.
n
Reviewing scopes of work, drawings, and specifications to identify risks and opportunities within the estimate.
n
Applying robust civil and electrical knowledge to accurately scope and price substation works.
n
Building and maintaining relationships with a robust network of Australian suppliers and subcontractors.
n
Collaborating with project engineering and construction teams to validate methodology and productivity assumptions.
n
Leading the preparation of compliant and competitive tender submissions.
n
Contributing to post-tender reviews and lessons learned to refine future estimates.
n
Maintaining accurate cost databases and benchmarking data for future use.
n

Qualifications
n
To excel in this role, you will need:
n
n
Extensive, in-depth estimating experience within HV substations (essential).
n
Experience estimating Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects (desirable but not essential).
n
Strong civil and electrical knowledge, with the ability to prepare full estimates across both disciplines.
n
Proven experience in running RFQs and negotiating with suppliers to secure competitive pricing.
n
Solid experience working with the Australian supplier and subcontractor market.
n
A background in an EPC or head contractor environment.
n
Proficiency in estimating software and strong Excel skills.
n
The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
n
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across engineering, construction, and commercial teams.
n
A relevant tertiary qualification in engineering or construction management is highly regarded but not essential if you have significant relevant experience.

Day-to-Day

Your typical day will involve:

Collaborating with engineering and construction teams to develop accurate project estimates.
n
Engaging with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing and ensure alignment with project requirements.
n
Reviewing project documentation, including drawings and specifications, to identify potential risks and opportunities.
n
Preparing detailed cost breakdowns and tender submissions.
n
Participating in team meetings to discuss project progress and refine estimation methodologies.
n
Maintaining and updating cost databases to ensure accuracy and efficiency in future projects.
n
