Job Description
Chemist - Mount Piper Power Station, NSW
Business Unit: Operations and Projects
Sourcing Location: New South Wales
About The Role
We're looking for a chemist to help us keep Mount Piper Power Station running safely, reliably, and cost-effectively.
You'll manage feedwater and cooling water chemistry to world-class standards, oversee chemical and water handling, and help extend the life of our assets.
You'll be part of a close-knit team where your advice genuinely shapes plant performance — working alongside our Chemical Specialist, Operations, Maintenance and Asset teams to solve problems and improve the way we do things.
Day to day will see you working across the following activities:
Providing technical advice and recommendations on unit cycle chemistry and water treatment plant performance
Overseeing day-to-day chemical control room operations, including inspections, calibration, and testing
Monitoring and verifying chemistry through lab testing, and managing online and lab analysis
Coordinating contractors delivering sampling, analysis, and biocide treatment
Reporting on chemical performance, plant availability and spend to Operations and Asset Management internally
Reviewing and updating chemical operating procedures and training materials
Researching and recommending industry best practice updates for chemical and water treatment processes

Responding to environmental and chemical incidents, and supporting emergency preparedness
Managing the stations cooling tower and chemical compliance requirements.
What are we looking for?
Qualifications
Due to the technical nature of this niche role, we are seeking applications from candidates with the following qualifications, skills, and experience:
A degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or science, with experience in process water systems in heavy industry — or equivalent experience
Knowledge of power station, industrial, and chemical environmental processes, and environmental legislation, including environmental protection, water management, and dangerous goods.
Solid problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate clearly, both written and verbal, on technical and non-technical matters
Experience with business systems used to manage plant data and reporting
A track record of working well in teams and influencing outcomes collaboratively
Experience in data gathering, analysis and reporting, or visual process management
Please note: This role occasionally requires on-call support when plant conditions need it — we're happy to talk through how that works and what support is available.
Advertising will close Sunday 27th September however we may start interviewing before this date.
