Trinity Bay State High School is seeking an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Teacher Aide (Identified) to support the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander English as an Additional Language (EAL) Program.

This is a unique and rewarding opportunity to make a positive difference in the educational outcomes and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at Trinity Bay State High School through targeted in-class support.

The successful applicant will have the opportunity to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in Years 7-12, many of whom are boarders from remote communities across Cape York, the Torres Strait and beyond.

The position is offered at 25 hours per week, plus 12.5% SJM hours, worked across five days.

About us:

The school provides secondary education for students in Years 7–12 and has a diverse community of approximately 1,800 students.

Drawing students from across Cairns, the school celebrates a strong Indigenous population, along with students from migrant and international backgrounds.

It is also committed to supporting students with a range of additional needs,



fostering an inclusive and welcoming school community.

Your prospect:

The position is offered at 25 hours per week, plus 12.5% SJM hours, worked across five days.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander EAL Program aims to provide students with a culturally safe, supportive and responsive learning environment. The Teacher Aide (Identified) will work closely with students to support their academic progress and engagement in the classroom, under the direction of the Head of Department of Languages and the Intensive English Centre.

This role provides an excellent opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and helping them achieve their educational goals.

Responsibilities include:

- Support teachers and students with sporting activities, excursions, playground and bus supervision, and other education activities as directed.
- Provide literacy and numeracy support to individual students and small groups, including assisting with learning materials and computer-based activities.
- Maintain anecdotal student records and assist students with locating reference materials and completing scholarship applications.
- Promote positive relationships with students,



families and the community while demonstrating confidentiality, sensitivity, reliability and effective teamwork.
- Support the development of activities that promote Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures, including community partnerships and educational activities such as a bush tucker garden.
