Pathology Queensland are excited to welcome application for a Medical Laboratory Scientist (Chemistry) to join the team at Sunshine Coast University Hospital, Birtinya! Pathology Queensland (PQ) provides diagnostic pathology services to all Hospital and Health Services (HHS) across metro, regional and remote Queensland and plays a critical role in the government's response to public health threats, epidemics, and civil emergencies. PQ offers laboratory services in the disciplines of anatomical pathology, chemical pathology, haematology, immunology, microbiology and genomics. PQ also provides expert analysis, scientific testing and advice to maintain and improve our public and environmental health, and to support the coronial system in Queensland.

About the role:
As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will apply competent level scientific judgement in the analysis of patient specimens leading to the verification and validation of test results in Chemical Pathology and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate. You will also support Point of Care testing services within local and remote hospital facilities.
Your key responsibilities include:
- Apply increasingly independent judgement in the analysis of patient specimens in Chemical Pathology leading to the verification and validation of test results and the provision of advice to the clinical unit where appropriate.
- Undertake diagnostic testing and related duties following Pathology Queensland established accredited protocols and standards within a single or multidisciplinary team in accordance with prescribed skilled and ethical standards.
- Ensure Internal and external quality assurance tasks within the Chemical Pathology department is performed and recorded in accordance with National Association of Testing Authority/International Standardisation Organisation (NATA/ISO) requirements.
- Provide input in the development of scientific practices, procedures and protocols within the Chemical Pathology department.
- Develop scientific knowledge and expertise through active learning within the team and by engaging in professional development activities.
- Work cooperatively and communicate effectively within the team and with clients, both internal and external to the laboratory to meet deadlines and ensure service delivery requirements are met.
Role fit:
You will be assessed on your ability to demonstrate the following:
- Demonstrated knowledge, expertise and skill in the delivery of competent scientific judgement within the Chemical Pathology department.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the delivery and support of Point of Care testing services.
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team with the ability to triage workloads and communicate this effectively with team members.
- Demonstrated ability to follow standard operating procedures and apply established principles to the Chemical Pathology service with provision of results and clinical advice in a client focused manner.
- Demonstrated ability (or ability to rapidly acquire the skill) to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation.
