About the Department

Join an engaged, enthusiastic team delivering the Multilateral Placements Program (MPP), which places Australians within the multilateral system to strengthen Australia's multilateral literacy and influence. You'll work with partners across our diplomatic network, the United Nations, the APS, and international organisations, deploying APS staff to multilateral organisations for one-to-three-year placements that support Australia's interests. This role is central to delivering the MPP, liaising within DFAT, across the APS, and with our network of Australians in the UN and multilateral organisations.

The Multilateral Policy and Human Rights Division (MPD) leads the Department's work on multilateral policy and human rights. Within it, the Multilateral Strategy and Candidacies Branch (MCB) leads Australia's strategic engagement in the multilateral system - including the United Nations, multilateral candidacies and elections, peace operations, and the Commonwealth of Nations.

About the Role

Our ideal candidate is highly proficient in recruitment processes and administration, with experience recruiting for the APS. Experience in program management and procurement (ODA or non-ODA) would be an advantage.

You'll have strong written and interpersonal communication skills, adapting your style to the situation and managing information with discretion. You'll work, influence, and negotiate with a range of internal and external international stakeholders.

We're looking for a cooperative team player who contributes to an inclusive, supportive culture, and who can work independently with only broad direction from the MPP team's Assistant Director.

Applicants must hold a current NV1 security clearance at minimum.

Key Duties

- Manage multilateral placement recruitment processes, including writing candidate packs and job ads, answering queries, reviewing applications, scheduling and conducting interviews (including sourcing panel members), reference checks, candidate feedback, and liaising with multilateral agencies on their own recruitment processes.
- Identify and approach prospective candidates (head hunting) as needed.
- Guide hiring managers on process and procedure to ensure recruitment meets APS standards.
- Support Australians placed with multilateral agencies, including regular check-ins and maintaining a forward calendar of administrative milestones for each placement.
- Support MPP grant management, including due diligence, payment processing, procurement, and monitoring and evaluation.
- Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders including multilateral organisations, foreign governments, DFAT desks and posts, and other APS agencies.
- Other duties as required.
