Help shape the future of Australia’s resources sector.

The Minerals and Resources Division works on nationally significant issues spanning mining, mine-site remediation, critical minerals and resource productivity.

We turn government priorities into practical outcomes—providing strategic policy advice, delivering major programs and working with industry, First Nations partners, communities, governments and international partners. Our work contributes to Australia’s economic resilience, sovereign capability and position in global resources markets.

The opportunity

The Minerals and Resources Division are looking for high performing managers to provide strategic leadership across a range of policy issues, programs and business functions, while guiding teams to deliver high-quality outcomes aligned with government priorities and departmental objectives. We are looking to fill vacancies across our five Branches:

- Mining and Remediation: provides policy advice on Australia’s mining sector, major commodities, and stewardship of legacy rehabilitation projects.
- Critical Minerals Office: provides policy advice and facilitation services for industry to grow Australia’s critical minerals sector; delivering the Critical Minerals Strategy 2023-30 and associated initiatives.
- Critical Minerals Security: develops critical minerals policy to support Australia‘s economic and national security,



including through international engagement, strategic project financing, and foreign investment settings.
- The Critical Minerals Strategic Reserve – Policy Branch: develops the policy settings and government advice that guide the design and operation of the Reserve.
- Critical Minerals Strategic Reserve - Assessments Branch: provides market, commercial and financial analysis to assess proposals and inform decisions on potential government support.

EL2 duties across the Division include but are not limited to:

- Leading teams, mentoring and nurturing staff and supporting senior executives to deliver meaningful and impactful policy advice
- Lead complex assessments and analysis, drawing together commercial, financial, market and policy evidence to provide clear, defensible advice.
- Leading policy analysis, complex program management or regulation of matters relating to:
- Critical Minerals




- Mining and Remediation

- Delivering budget measures and deliverables as outlined in the Critical Minerals Strategy 2023-2030
- Represent the department and lead stakeholder engagement across government and with external stakeholders including international counterparts, industry and First Nations partners.
- Provide strategic advice, problem solving and issues management, reporting to the Executive.

Eligibility

An understanding of the resources sector is desirable.

NV1 or NV2 security clearance is desirable but not required for all roles.

To be eligible for employment in the APS and the department, candidates must be Australian Citizens.

Positions require a Baseline security clearance and successful candidates will be required to obtain and maintain a clearance at this level.

Notes

Our division has a national footprint, and we will consider applications from all locations across Australia. Some operational requirements and security clearances may apply to certain roles.

A merit pool may be established and used to fill future vacancies within 18 months from the date the vacancy was first advertised in the Gazette.
