About the opportunity
Northern Grampians Shire Council is looking for enthusiastic and dedicated Swim Teachers to join our team at the Stawell Sports & Aquatic Centre.
As a Swim Teacher, you’ll play an important role in helping participants develop their swimming skills, water confidence and safety knowledge through engaging and supportive lessons.
About the role
What you'll be doing:
- Plan, prepare and safely deliver swimming lessons to the Swim and Survive standard.
- Develop lesson plans using a variety of teaching methods and styles to support different learning needs.
- Assess participant readiness, progress and skill development, and provide appropriate feedback and reporting.
- Create a positive, encouraging and inclusive learning environment.
- Support and supervise AUSTSWIM or equivalent training candidates and probationary employees participating in classes.
- Provide professional and friendly customer service to participants, parents, carers and other stakeholders.
- Promote positive water safety behaviours and help participants build confidence in the water.
- Attend mandatory staff meetings as required.
- Undertake other duties within your skills, competence and training.
About you
We’re looking for someone who is passionate about swimming, enjoys working with children and wants to make a positive difference in our community.

- Passionate about swimming, water safety and helping others learn.
- Friendly, patient and enthusiastic when working with children and participants of all abilities.
- Someone who enjoys helping children build confidence and develop their swimming skills.
- Committed to creating fun, engaging and supportive learning experiences.
- Able to recognise and celebrate student progress and adapt your teaching to individual learning needs.
- Confident communicating with participants, parents, carers and other stakeholders.
- Able to plan and deliver engaging swimming lessons using a range of teaching methods.
- Committed to providing a safe, positive and inclusive learning workplace.
- Reliable and able to work effectively as part of a supportive team.
- Keen to develop your teaching and aquatic industry skills.
- Enthusiastic about supporting local families and contributing to the health, wellbeing and water safety of our community.
Qualifications & experience
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Current AUSTSWIM Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety qualification, or equivalent.
- Current AUSTSWIM Teacher of Infant and Preschool qualification, or equivalent (desirable).
- Current Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) recognised resuscitation certification.
- Current Level 2 (Senior) First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of AUSTSWIM industry guidelines.
- Knowledge of swimming lesson philosophy and teaching guidelines.
- The ability to adapt lessons to meet the learning needs and skill levels of individual participants.
