Terrey Hills Golfuntry Club

Terrey Hills

Terrey Hills Golf & Country Club is nestled beside a magnificent National Park in Sydney’s metropolitan north and is one of Australia’s best private golf clubs. Ranked 51st in Australian Golf Digest’s 2026/27 Top 100 Golf Courses, the immaculately conditioned 18-hole championship golf course offers a unique experience for members, guests and staff.

The Club is looking to build on its reputation and improve its standing in the golfing community, providing an excellent opportunity for an experienced turf professional to lead the presentation and development of a well-known Sydney golf course.

Terrey Hills is now seeking to appoint a motivated, career-orientated Golf Course Superintendent. The position arises because the Club's Course Superintendent, who also held the General Manager role, has transitioned to the Board of Directors. The Golf Operations Manager has been appointed General Manager, an internal promotion that maintains continuity across the management team.

The incoming Superintendent will work alongside the General Manager and report to the Board of Directors, taking full responsibility for the golf course, the property as a whole and the Golf Course Management Team, and will be expected to add to the positive, professional work culture at Terrey Hills.

The successful candidate should possess the following qualities:

- Proven experience managing bentgrass putting surfaces through a Sydney summer, including moisture management, and an understanding of the challenges the local climate presents
- Strong leadership and team building ability, with a record of developing and retaining staff
- Sound agronomic judgement across greens, couchgrass fairways and surrounds
- Good understanding of pest and disease management
- The ability to troubleshoot situations quickly and effectively
- Experience preparing and managing operating and capital budgets
- Practical knowledge of irrigation operation, water management and drainage
- Good understanding of relevant WHS and environmental regulations, and the record-keeping they require
- Good communication skills,

including the confidence to report clearly to a Board
- Punctual, well presented and professional at all times
- Relevant qualifications in sports turf management and current chemical application accreditation

Other skillsets that would be advantageous include:

• Golf course construction and renovation project experience, including in-house delivery
• Irrigation installation experience
• Experience managing an environmentally sensitive site, or land adjoining a National Park
• Machinery fleet and workshop management

What the Club offers

Terrey Hills is a private club with a limited membership of approximately 750, and has a sustained record of reinvestment in the golf course. Recent work includes the upgrade of most of the course maintenance fleet, the introduction of autonomous machinery, a multi-year bunker refurbishment program delivered by a purpose-trained in-house crew, and the renovation of the 17th green.

The Club is privately owned, and in this position the successful candidate will report to the Board of the company. Decisions are made commercially and consistently. The Board also carries direct golf course expertise, including the Club’s former Course Superintendent and General Manager, and the original designer of the course. The Superintendent can expect to be understood at Board level, with short decision-making lines and with agronomic and day-to-day course management decisions resting in their hands.

Further education is also available and encouraged by Terrey Hills, with the intention of providing our staff with the necessary skills to progress their career in the turf industry. The position includes a competitive salary, a fantastic working setting and the opportunity to lead the next stage of the rejuvenation of an excellent Sydney golf course.
