About the role

The Instructor Controller (IC) operates, provides instruction on, and maintains various simulation scenarios and models in support of simulation events using the Joint Live Virtual and Constructive (JLVC) simulation applications. The IC plans, develops, tests, and controls simulation based entities in specified simulation applications during events, and provides training and support to exercise personnel operating the simulation.

Key responsibilities

- Responsible for simulation entities and scenarios in simulation enables training events to ensure simulation outcomes and requirements are met

- Develops training packages for instruction of simulation interactors for discrete simulation-enabled activities

- Provides training to assigned event personnel on the use of Joint Live Virtual and Constructive simulation applications

- Assists in the management and maintenance of Simulation Databases to assure accurate order of battle data

- Works with other JCTB technical teams during event design, development, testing, delivery and review activities to assure simulation deliverables meet defined exercise requirements

- Apply Information Technology Infrastructure Management (ITIL) Service Management principles and processes under direction, including participation in Change Advisory Boards (CAB) and implementation of approved changes

- Assignment to designated exercises as part of Technical Control (TECHCON) and Simulation Control (SIMCON), which may include participation in exercise planning and work routines, out of hours support, and some shift work





- Handle classified information in accordance with Commonwealth policy including the Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF) and Australian Government Information Security Manual (ISM)

- Responsible for the protection of Commonwealth Intellectual Property (IP) and upholding Defence's international obligations including Foreign Military Sales (FMS) and International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements

- Work closely with other JCTB technical teams, and may be assigned to cross-skill, cross-functional or project teams as directed

About you

- Minimum NV2 security clearance required

- A tertiary degree and/or vocational qualifications in a relevant IT discipline

- 5+ years industry experience in simulation, relevant military experience, or combination of the two

- Experience with the Joint Exercise Life Cycle, military Orders of Battle (ORBATS) and broad military doctrine and training functions

- Sound understanding of development and application of training systems and exercise development processes in Defence, including policy, standards and training outcome assessments

- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot technical problems and develop solutions

- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within a cross-functional team workplace

- An unrestricted ability to deploy to Australian Defence Force (ADF) military installations in support of training events

- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with technical peers and frontline IT leadership

- Previous experience with JLVC federations and simulation applications (desirable)
