Senior Engineer (Traffic and Road Safety)
- Permanent / Full Time
- Monday to Friday, 72.5 hours per fortnight, 9 day fortnight
- $127,128 - $134,882 per annum (LGIA Stream A Level 7) + Superannuation
- Location – Rockhampton
Your new role
Are you an experienced traffic engineer looking to make a meaningful impact on the safety, connectivity and future of a growing region?
As our Senior Engineer (Traffic and Road Safety), you'll be at the forefront of delivering safer, smarter and more connected roads for our community. From complex traffic and road safety assessments to major infrastructure projects and transport corridor management, your expertise will directly influence how people travel throughout the region.
Working alongside industry professionals, government agencies and key stakeholders, you'll provide trusted technical advice, solve complex engineering challenges and help drive innovative transport solutions. No two days are the same, offering a unique blend of technical leadership, stakeholder engagement and project influence.
This position requires the completion of a satisfactory Criminal History Check - Police Certificate (Australia Wide Name Only Police Check).
What we are looking for
- Recognised expertise in traffic engineering, road safety and transport planning, with substantial experience delivering complex engineering assessments and advice.
- Proven ability to provide authoritative technical leadership and influence strategic decisions across diverse stakeholder groups.
- Extensive knowledge of transport legislation, road safety standards and engineering governance within a regulatory workplace.
- Highly developed analytical, risk assessment and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex and sensitive issues.
- A track record of driving continuous improvement, innovation and excellence in the delivery of transport and road network outcomes.

Application Criteria
- Possession of the essential qualifications and professional registrations required for the role, supported by experience in Local Government and an understanding of associated legislative and governance frameworks.
- Experience managing complex traffic engineering, road safety or transport infrastructure projects, including the delivery of technical assessments, recommendations and outcomes.
- Ability to influence and collaborate with diverse stakeholders to achieve successful outcomes, particularly in complex, sensitive or highly regulated environments
- Demonstrated ability to drive operational excellence through technical leadership, process improvement and the implementation of best practice engineering solutions.
