About the role

As Site Ecologist, you will be responsible for providing practical ecological support across the Vulcan Mine site. This is a hands-on, site-based role responsible for supporting the effective management of ecological values and fauna across the operation. You will work closely with the site environmental and operational teams to ensure ecological risks are appropriately identified, managed and monitored throughout mining activities.

Key responsibilities

- Conducting fauna spotting, monitoring, handling and relocation activities.
- Undertaking fauna surveys and ecological field assessments.
- Supporting clearing activities and ensuring fauna management requirements are implemented effectively.
- Identifying and managing ecological risks associated with mining and rehabilitation activities.
- Providing ecological advice and support to site operational teams.
- Monitoring fauna and flora values across the site.
- Assisting with environmental inspections, monitoring and reporting.
- Supporting rehabilitation and land management activities.
- Maintaining accurate ecological records and documentation.
- Ensuring ecological activities are undertaken in accordance with relevant legislation, approvals,



management plans and site procedures.

About you

- A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Zoology, Wildlife Management or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years' post-graduate professional experience in ecology or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience undertaking ecological field work.
- Relevant fauna spotting, handling and/or catching qualifications and experience.
- Practical experience with fauna identification, handling and relocation.
- An understanding of Queensland environmental legislation and regulatory requirements relevant to mining and ecological management.
- Strong observational, communication and record-keeping skills.
- The ability to work independently while also being an effective member of a site-based team.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to environmental management.
- The ability to work safely and effectively in a mining workplace.
