Civil Crew Lead / Leading Hand – Bulk Earthworks & Foundations

Pro Civil Works is seeking an experienced Civil Crew Lead / Leading Hand to join our team on a major renewable energy infrastructure project in regional NSW.

This is a living-away-from-home position, working on a roster for the duration of the project. Accommodation will be provided while working away.

We are looking for a hands-on crew lead with strong experience in bulk earthworks, foundations and general civil construction, who can lead a small crew while also operating plant and working alongside the team.

The Role

Working closely with the Site Civil Supervisor and Project Management team, you will lead a civil crew delivering a range of construction activities across the project.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Leading and coordinating a small civil crew

- Operating excavators and other civil plant as required

- Bulk excavation, cut and fill activities

- Site stripping, trimming and preparation

- Foundation excavation and preparation

- Structural and equipment foundation works

- Backfilling and compaction

- Working to levels, grades and tolerances

- Trenching and service excavation

- Drainage and swale construction

- Pit and pipe installation

- Access roads and hardstand construction

- Coordinating daily works with the Site Civil Supervisor

- Completing pre-starts, Take 5s, HACs and site documentation

- Monitoring productivity, quality and safety

- Coordinating plant, tools, materials and consumables required by the crew

- Reading and working from construction drawings and specifications

- Identifying construction issues early and escalating them appropriately

- Maintaining good housekeeping and site presentation

This is a hands-on position.



The successful applicant will be expected to lead from the front, operate plant when required and actively contribute to the delivery of the works.

Living Away From Home

This position requires living away from home while rostered on the project.

Applicants must be comfortable working in regional NSW for extended rostered periods.

Accommodation will be provided by Pro Civil Works while working away.

This role will suit someone who is accustomed to project-based civil construction and understands the requirements of working away from home as part of a roster.

Essential Experience

Applicants must have:

- Previous experience as a Civil Leading Hand, Crew Lead or similar

- Strong bulk earthworks experience

- Strong civil foundations experience

- Excavation, backfilling and compaction experience

- Experience working to levels, grades and tolerances

- Excavator operating experience

- Experience leading civil crews in the field

- Ability to read and understand civil construction drawings

- Good understanding of construction methodology and sequencing

- Strong safety awareness

- Good communication and organisational skills

- A practical, hands-on approach

- Willingness and ability to work away from home on a roster

Applicants without demonstrated bulk earthworks and foundation construction experience are unlikely to be suitable for this position.

Experience within substations,



renewable energy, BESS, transmission, utilities or major infrastructure projects will be highly regarded.

Tickets & Licences

Applicants should hold:

- Current Australian Driver Licence

- White Card

- Excavator competency/ticket

Additional plant competencies, First Aid, roller, loader, skid steer or other relevant civil construction tickets will be advantageous.
