HR Business Partner - 6 Month Contract
Centacare | Brisbane | Hybrid Working | Full-time | 6-Month Contract
Bring your HR experience to a role where you can partner with leaders, solve problems and make a practical difference.
Centacare is looking for an experienced HR Business Partner to join our People & Culture team for a six-month contract.
This is a genuine generalist HR role for someone who enjoys being close to the work. You'll partner primarily with Heads of Function and other leaders across the organisation, providing practical advice and support while also being comfortable rolling up your sleeves and getting things done.
Reporting to the General Manager - People & Culture, you'll work as part of a collaborative P&C; team, with a particular focus on employee relations and industrial relations, alongside broader HR, organisational development and people initiatives.
This role is likely to suit an experienced HRBP, HR Advisor or senior HR generalist who has developed strong partnering capability but still genuinely enjoys the operational side of HR.
About Centacare
Centacare is a non-profit community organisation that supports the strengthening of family and community relationships, particularly where there is vulnerability and disadvantage.
Our services are available to the entire community regardless of religion, circumstance, ethnicity, economic situation, age, gender or ability. We strive to deliver professional and accountable services while empowering our clients to find solutions and achieve their goals.
The opportunity
Working closely with senior leaders, you'll provide practical HR business partnering support across a broad range of people matters.
Some days may involve supporting a leader through a complex employee relations matter. Others might see you working through performance concerns, preparing documentation, providing advice on an industrial matter, supporting organisational change or contributing to a leadership or organisational development initiative.
It's a varied role, and that variety is an important part of the opportunity.
We're looking for someone who is comfortable moving between advice and delivery — someone who can have a thoughtful conversation with a Head of Function, provide clear and pragmatic guidance, and then take ownership of the practical actions needed to move the matter forward.
This is not a purely strategic HRBP role. You'll be expected to get involved in the detail and help deliver the outcome.
Your impact
You'll help leaders make confident and considered people decisions while ensuring HR practices remain fair, consistent and aligned with relevant legislation, industrial instruments,
organisational policies and values.
A significant part of the role will involve employee relations and industrial relations, so you'll bring the confidence and judgement to work through matters including performance management, grievances, workplace concerns, investigations and disciplinary processes.
You'll also contribute more broadly across the People & Culture function, responding to organisational priorities and helping deliver practical improvements for leaders and employees.
What your day might look like
No two days will be exactly the same, but your responsibilities may include:
- Partnering with Heads of Function and other leaders on day-to-day and more complex people matters.
- Providing practical advice and coaching across employee relations, performance management, conduct, grievances and workplace concerns.
- Managing ER matters from initial advice through to documentation, meetings, outcomes and follow-up.
- Providing advice on industrial relations matters, relevant Awards, enterprise agreements, employment legislation and organisational policies.
- Supporting workplace investigations and disciplinary processes where required.
- Assisting leaders with organisational change, restructures and consultation processes.
- Preparing explicit and appropriate HR correspondence, documentation and practical guidance.
- Supporting workforce planning and broader generalist HR activities.
- Contributing to leadership, capability, learning and organisational development initiatives.
- Working collaboratively across the broader People & Culture team and stepping into operational priorities as they arise.
About you
We're looking for an experienced HR generalist who enjoys working closely with leaders and is equally comfortable providing advice and getting involved in the practical delivery.
You'll ideally bring:
- Solid experience as an HR Business Partner, HR Advisor or senior HR generalist within a reasonably complex organisation.
- Strong practical experience managing employee relations and industrial relations matters.
- Confidence interpreting employment legislation, modern Awards, enterprise agreements, policies and employment conditions.
- Experience supporting performance management, grievances, investigations,
disciplinary matters and organisational change.
- The ability to build trusted relationships with senior stakeholders while remaining comfortable working directly on the detail.
- Strong written communication skills, including preparing clear HR correspondence and documentation.
- Sound judgement and the ability to balance organisational, operational and employee considerations.
- A practical and responsive style, with a willingness to take ownership rather than simply provide advice and hand matters on.
- Experience across Learning & Organisational Development, leadership development or capability initiatives would be highly regarded.
- A relevant qualification in Human Resources, Employee Relations, Business or a related discipline would be beneficial.
Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys helping leaders work through real people challenges and is willing to get involved where needed.
Why join Centacare?
This six-month opportunity gives you the chance to join a supportive People & Culture team and contribute quickly within a large, purpose-led organisation.
You'll enjoy:
- Salary Packaging Benefits: Package up to $18,550 of your annual salary tax-free, helping increase your take-home pay.
- Hybrid Working: A flexible hybrid working arrangement.
- Flexible Working Hours: Some flexibility around start and finish times to help you balance work and life.
- Training & Development: Opportunities to continue building your HR, employee relations and organisational development capability.
- Employee Assistance Program: Free and confidential counselling available to you and your family members.
- Purpose: The chance to contribute to meaningful work that supports individuals, families and communities across Queensland.
