IPLiving is seeking a talented Legal Counsel to provide trusted, practical legal support across our growing retirement living business.
The role is permanent full-time or permanent part-time (4 days).

About the Role
This is a broad legal and projects role spanning IPLiving’s day-to-day legal operations, and the delivery of key projects and initiatives across the business. You will report to our Group General Counsel (GGC) with support from the Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
The role is suited to an experienced, commercially minded lawyer who is comfortable balancing legal,
compliance and project delivery responsibilities across the business.
Key Responsibilities
The role is structured around three core areas: retirement village unit resales, day-to-day legal and compliance support, and broader business growth and operational initiatives. Key responsibilities generally include:
- Provide commercial and practical legal advice to stakeholders
- Oversee efficient delivery of resales, working closely with sales, finance and external law firms
- Manage resident contract templates, disclosure statements and community-level documents
- Support business projects, including M&A; due diligence, impact initiatives, and operational matters
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts
- Ensure compliance with corporate governance and applicable regulatory requirements
- Support the business on employment law, workplace health and safety, and broader HR matters
- Provide company secretarial support to the business
- Manage disputes, regulatory enquiries and legal proceedings
- Oversee implementation and updating of key IPLiving policies and process guidance
- Deliver practical legal and compliance training across the business
- Manage external law firms as required
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- Law degree (LLB or JD) from an Australian university; admission to the Supreme Court of Victoria (or eligibility to transfer)
- Practising certificate (current or eligible for renewal)
- 5 years post-admission experience,
preferably with exposure to property, commercial, corporate law. Retirement living experience helpful but not essential
- Strong communication, legal drafting and research skills
- Capacity to manage multiple matters with competing deadlines
Desirable
- Experience in or knowledge of the retirement villages sector and/or regulatory environment
- Exposure to general duty and tax law
Personal Attributes
- High levels of intellectual curiosity and a genuine interest in the seniors living sector
- Commercial judgment - able to identify legal risk in its business context and offer pragmatic solutions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including confidence in explaining legal concepts to non-lawyers
- A collaborative style: comfortable working closely with a small, senior team
- Self-starting and ownership-oriented
- Discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive resident and commercial matters
