About Queen's
Founded in 1887, Queen's College is a vibrant residential community proudly affiliated with the University of Melbourne. More than accommodation, Queen's is a place of shared life, where academic ambition, intellectual curiosity, creativity, leadership, and care for others are part of the same human story. Grounded in the ethos of community and service, Queen's brings together students, staff, alumni and supporters who believe education should shape not only capable graduates, but thoughtful, generous, and engaged citizens.

Queen's College students are bright, ambitious, and full of possibility. They're also, in many cases, living away from home for the first time — navigating recent friendships, new pressures, and new versions of themselves.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced wellbeing professional to lead our student support function. This is a leadership role for someone who shares our priorities and values and is ready to help us boldly shape a vibrant residential community in which students can genuinely thrive.

At Queen’s, we are unusually deliberate and ambitious about culture. Our newly adopted Strategic Framework 2026–2030 sets out clear commitments for the kind of community we want to build. Together, they express our ambition for Queen’s to be a boisterous, vibrant community where students are not only supported but challenged and further prepared for lives of purpose and contribution.

Students at Queen’s carry unusual responsibility for their own community and exercise real leadership within it. That matters. But strengthening culture and creating the conditions in which students can flourish is work shared across the whole College.

This role is one of our most important points of continuing contact and influence,

helping give practical life to the College’s Strategic Framework and the educational and cultural priorities established by the Head of College and Dean.

At its core, the role rests on two connected commitments: to the health of our student community, and to the growth of the young adults within it. That means playing a key part in shaping a culture where people belong, relationships are respectful, harmful behaviour is challenged, and students are encouraged to take real responsibility for the community they create together.

It also means supporting individual students as they develop confidence, resilience, sound judgement, healthy relationships and a clearer sense of who they are.

As Director of Student Wellbeing and Inclusion, you'll lead the College's counselling team, guide and mentor our Corridor Leaders, and design training programs that run across the year — from O Week onward. You'll be the person students turn to when things get difficult, and the one who puts systems in place, so fewer things become difficult in the first place.

This is a full-time, non-residential position reporting to the Dean.

What you'll do

- Lead the design and delivery of student training programs, including National Code compliance modules and O Week programming, ensuring they reflect the College’s Strategic Framework 2026–2030 and advance the cultural and educational priorities shaped by the Head of College and Dean/Deputy Head.

- Lead the College's counselling team and mentor the Corridor Leader group, providing direction, supervision,

and support

- Act as a designated support contact for disclosures under the College's SAFE framework, managing them with care and professionalism

- Provide tailored support to individual students, coordinating with external health and mental health services

- Run proactive wellbeing programs that address challenges before they become crises

- Collect and report on wellbeing data to inform College-level decision-making

- Support admissions and recruitment activities alongside the Dean

What you'll bring

- Formal qualifications in counselling, psychology, social work, education, or a related field

- Proven experience supporting young adults through emotional, mental health, and personal challenges

- The ability to lead a small team and earn trust quickly — with students, colleagues, and external professionals alike

- Sound pastoral judgement, including experience with risk assessment, disclosures, and escalation

- Familiarity with trauma-informed practice, ethical boundaries, and referral pathways

- Knowledge of the National Code for the Prevention of Gender-Based Violence (or willingness to develop it quickly)

- A genuine interest in the residential college environment and community-based student support

- Registration (or eligibility for registration) with a relevant professional body is an advantage

- A current Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one)

What we offer

- A real community – A close-knit team in a College that genuinely knows its people

- Meaningful work – A role that genuinely matters to students

- Competitive salary – Remuneration commensurate with experience

- A great location – Beautiful grounds in Parkville, with excellent access to public transport and free on-site parking
